Why not???
Frankly I have absolutely no definite answer to your question, but it is stirring some thoughts.
You do know there are people, not a lot, who are mirror images of what is considered normal. Their heart is on the right side of their chest. About 30 years ago I read an article about a man, I believe from Scotland, who had two fully functional hearts feeding one circulatory system.
If I had to guess an answer to your question it would go something like this.
Most folks are right handed, so I would theorize that at some point in our history we were doing something with our right hand/arm that was so violent that people with a heart slightly offset to the left had a slight survival advantage. {Note: Pacemakers have been implanted on the left side to allows people the continue shooting rifles and shotguns without damaging the device.} Since these traits are genetic those who survived longer passed the trait to more off-springs than those who died young. After a while, perhaps as little as 50,000 years people with that offset gene were beginning to mate with other people who also carried the gene. And as the storytellers say, "the rest is history".
Another question on anatomy, why does the left lung have two lobes and the right have three? It could be due to the location of the heart but why not simply have a lobe smaller than the other?
Yours was interesting question, I really enjoyed mulling this over. Thanks. 1 thumbs up.

The heart isn't on the left side, it is actually located right in the middle. The aorta is on the upper left side of the heart, which is the reason we feel the heartbeat there.
Some people have an abnormality that causes them to feel the beat on the right, because their heart is inverted (put in backwards) - but the heart is STILL in the middle!

It is in the middle....right in the middle...it just feels like it's on the left side because thats where the left ventricle which is the part of the heart that has to do the most work as it pumps blood to the entire body

your heart is in the Middle. Who said it was on the left side. Do a little research and you would find out it is in the center

I never thought of that before.....
But i've heard of some people who have their hearts on the right side. There is nothing wrong with them though. They live as normally as any left-hearted person.

Your heart is located almost in the center of your chest but most people think it is located on the left side of the chest. You can ask your doctor next time you see him or her. Or check a medical book

I have my heart on the right side. It's called Situs Inversus, and there is no established reason for it.
