I just had a baby girl 2months ago and she was born 3lb 3oz.She now weighs 7lb.I breast fed her for 3 and a half weeks while she was in the NICU.Well she got used to the bottle b/c I wasnt there to feed her the milk all the time so they just put my milk n a bottle.Well they didnt try to introduce her to my breast until weeks later. She wouldnt except it.So they put her on this milk called Neosure for preemies by Similac. She has gotten really fat from what she was but they say that breast fed preemie babies get big what about formula fed preemie babies?

Don't worry, sounds to me she's doing great so far. Alot of baby's are formula feed and grow to be as big and healthy as the next breast fed baby. Of course breast is best but it's not always that easy and as mothers we know this. It's good to worry it shows how much concern you have for your child's health. Formula can be just as fattening considering the fact she takes to it well if so you have nothing to worry about!

My preemie was born at 34 weeks gestation. She's now 14 months and 23 pounds. I fed her formula only (started on Similac NeoSure for preemies and then Nestle' Good Start) and her pediatrician says that she's doing fine.

Expect developmental delays though of which your pediatrician can recommend an early childhood teacher or therapist. My little girl is just starting tp pull up and take some steps and doesn't really talk much yet, but I know that she will get there!

Without a doubt. I have a niece who just had a preemie a few months ago and when I tell you he is the biggest baby I've ever seen. I wish I could show u a picture. She did not breast feed but used the milk that the hospital chooses for a preemie that your baby uses now. This formular it works fine. Best of luck to you....

She will get bigger just take a little longer with formula. Because sometimes babies spit up the formula and keep down the breast milk down more so. Don't worry if she's already 7 pounds she about the size of a normal baby don't worry any more. I know that's hard my baby was in the NICU for a week but he was full term I'm just little and he was only 5lbs 1oz and they had to give him formula at birth because my milk hadn't come in strong. And he spit the formula up and lost weight. Now he is 8 pounds 2months on just breast milk. Don't worry so much.

I have 2 preemies; one used Enfamil AR and the other uses Prosobee Lipil. The first preemie is 3 now and people say he looks 4 or 5 yo. My 5mo weighs 19lbs now and I was only able to breastfeed for 2 months. Formula is gonna make your baby big and healthy

I have a similar situation, my son was born at 33w at 4lbs 6oz, and he's 6 months old now. He weighs 15lbs now, and he's also on Neosure. I breastfed him(pump and feed) for a month before my supply dried up. Ethan never really did take to my nipple, he prefered the bottle nipple.

It's good that she's growing really well on the Neosure. Sounds like she's doing find to me!

All babies grow differently. My breastfed niece who was born 3.5 months after Ethan weighs more than he does already, but my best friend's formula fed daughter who is a month older than Ethan weighs more than he does too.

I had my second baby at 34 weeks. She weighed 4lbs 12oz. She was formula fed right from the start and she gained weight and developed normally. She has a little catching up to do but in a few months when shes eating more and starting solids she'll be right up there with the rest of them. Mine is 2 yrs now and is 22 lbs... lil on the smaller side but just right !

My son, who will be 8 weeks tomorrow, was born 6 weeks premature. I couldn't breastfeed because of seizure and bloodpressure medication I was taking, not to mention he couldn't really figure out how to suck for about a week, and he just couldn't figure out how to take the breast. Not the end of the world.

I pumped for a while, but dried up rather quickly. He's been on formula ever since, and the ped says he's doing great! He's small for a full-term 8 week old, but he's right on for his adjusted age. I wouldn't worry about your baby getting too big right now, you want them to! Just follow what the doctor says and you all will be fine!

your preemie will develop just fine without breast milk! If you can find it there are special formulas made specifically for preemies. Its a little more expensive, but if you're really worried it's worth a shot.
