I'm 2 weeks late for my period! I've taken 2 test both negative (in the first week) still no period. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not the pill could be affecting my results?? I had this problem with my last pregnancy...a few negatives before getting a positive but I was not on the pill then. AND YES I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DOCTOR, but that's not until Thursday. Anyway, I would not be concerned if I was not gaining weight. So could the weight gain be simply because I didn't get my period and I'm bloated or do you think it's a sure tale sign that I'm pregnant???

By the way I have only been on the pill for 2 months. (starting my 3rd now) But I was taking antibiotics, I know they cancel out the b/c but I did not know that you should still use back up for 7 days AFTER!!! Which I was active during this time! Also I did take an early response test. I also confirmed with the DR. that it is still safe to take the pill even if i AM pregnant, some women are given hormones while pregnant so it will not effect the baby.

the pill shouldn't affect your HCG levels at all. that is what pregnancy tests are looking for. however, it is definitely possible to get pregnant on the pill. happened to me twice. (sadly, both times i miscarried) my mom got pregnant with me on bc too. glad to hear you are going to the doctor.
however, if you had negatives before your positive on your last pregnancy, then it is very possible. that does happen to some women who have abnormally low HCG levels early in pregnancy. your doctor will probably do a blood test which is much more accurate, and doesn't need as high of levels as a urine test will.
weight gain this early on isn't likely a sign of pregnancy. most women don't gain a whole lot of weight in the first 2 months. how much weight have you gained? it is possible i suppose.
wish i had a better answer, but sounds like odds for either answer are very likely given the info you've provided. i think you are smart going to the doctor.
good luck! i hope whatever results is what you are wanting! i keep hoping for a positive test myself.... hopefully sooner than later! god bless!

The birth control pill is either a single or dual hormone pill that is synthetic estrogen and progesterone. These are not the pregnancy hormones, so being on the pill could not cause a false positive.
You are correct in your statement that being on antibiotics can affect the performance of the pill as a birth control method.
You would not be gaining weight during the first 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. More likely you would be losing weight during the first trimester. Feeling any nausea? Tender nipples? A bit tender inside during sex, or maybe a little engorged? You may be pregnant.
Now, two weeks ago when your period was due, did you have any spotting? Even only a few drops? Funny clots? That may be just because of the effects of the pill and the antibiotcs. If the effect of the antibiotics is to reduce the amount of hormones in your system, that is the same as the effects of being on a lowdose birth control pill. The bloating too may be from having a shortened period. Wait until you see the doctor and they do an internal exam and urine or blood pregnancy tests to confirm.

I don't know whether you are pregnant or not, but I do know that birth control pills do not affect pregnancy tests. You may just have low levels of Hcg that are not detectable yet. Try the First Response early test, which is the most sensitive, and stop taking your birth control pills, just in case you are pregnant. For more info on pregnancy, see this website:

No , it wont affect the test. I was looking up this information today on the First response pregnancy test web site.
I get bloated and add about 5 pounds when I am about to start my period. But everyone is different.
Nothing can really say unless you get a real positive test from your doctor. Good luck on Thursday BTW!

Birth control pills will NOT affect the results of a home pregnancy test. Birth control pills can however, over time cause your period to become shorter and lighter and it is common for women to miss a period occassionally on the pill.

If you have been freaking out than that may cause your period to stop. I know everytime I freak out about being pregnant it makes my period take even longer because I am so stressed. Just give it some time. Unless you are one of those people that has their period on the same day every month than I wouldn't be too worried.

No one can answer this question, you can gain and loose weight for many reasons, your period can be late for many reasons, and a test can give a false negative, Sorry but I do think you already knew that. Good Luck!

the weight gain could be anything. if you're having sex, on the pill or no, you can still get pregnant. just wait until you talk to your doctor.

Doesn't sound like you are pregnant to me. sometimes being on the pill you don't necessarily have to have periods every month.
