Of course not what we should have done is hunted them down instead we gave them exactly what they wanted which is an environment of war and discontentment coupled with a great enemy (us) to help them further their cause. At the same time are giving up our own rights and freedom at home.
I would say they got just what the wanted.

They've been warring among themselves for millenia. I don't know what our government morons think we can do about it. The majority of the Middle East are very extreme in their beliefs and have little tolerance for those outside that belief system. We just need to give them all nice, big, non-nuclear guns with a short range and let them settle it themselves. They should have themselves wiped out in no time.
