What is the deal with 2012?

On 2012 things will change for ever. Your toliet will flush the other way. Your Clocks will go backwards. We will have to line our houses with aluminum foil to protect ourselves from alien spacecraft energy. It will be the beginning of a new earth. A earth ran by a race called Orfaloopa7000's. They will eventually melt our brains, and become the leaders of the whole world.

On the winter solstice of 2012, the full moon will rise aligned with Venus and Jupiter, marking another Grand Cycle in the Mayan calendar. Most calendars only use the sun and moon, but theirs uses the other two bodies also. Many wonder why Mars was unused.
This is far longer than a millennium, dwarfing Y2k except there is no technological folding involved. Everything is reset and one is added to the Grand Cycle count and everything moves on.
I read a prediction the solar system would pass through a galactic spiral arm of dust, shaming nuclear winter. But that could happen anyway, I suppose, presenting an argument against space elevatoring Pu into the sun - a subterranean survival culture might need that power until the sun comes out.
And then, a supernova could happen nearby. But the alignment itself will cause nothing but wonder.

The Mayan calender speaks of different energy shifts thoughout time. What makes people think something is going to happen 2012 is that after that year there is no more Maya calender. It just ends.

That Mayan Calender stops after 2012, goes all the way up to 2012 from like 2000 years before, so they knew the maths, but it stops at 2012, I figure sky will fall after the bird shaped UFOs destroy the sun that will cause global warming to be accelerated by the shockwave of the ice fissioning into a hydromatic vespa with fm radio waves that will definatley alter the tides becuase that chick in her panties and torn robe whom we know as God is cranky about the penguins not being fed the right caloric dietary tofu. wait ,,I could be wrong.

The latest philosphy about 2012 that I have heard is that it will indeed be the end of the world as we now know it, but not the end of life. Rather it will take the form of dividing people into two different dimensions or parallel universes. The separation will cause people that carry a certain vibration that will separate them from those that are deemed to be evil or with bad intent.

Ask a Mayan and they will tell you the world as we know it is coming to an end. Their legendary Mayan Calendar ends in 2012.
