Wrap a steel cable, chain around something immoveable, that is attached to the laptop, it simply eliminates anyone picking it up and walking away. BUT anyone with a good wire cutter can snip the cable.
One way to protect the laptop is to install LoJack for Laptops, another is to password protectv the bootup which is BIOS not tied to the hard drive. Another is to encrypt the hard drive (Folder Lock), this protects important papers, and of couyrse buy a USB external drive and back up everything!!

There is a little spot on the back (or side) of the laptop that you put the lock mechanism in, then turn the key, and you can't pull the mechanism back out without unlocking it. The chain lets you attach to something that can't be moved.
