Currently, I believe our most brilliant and creative minds are in the private sector making more money. That is good but what does that say about the people who are in charge of running our gov't. Have you ever tried calling gov't agencies? Do you ever wonder why they can not deal with the traffic problem? Are you a Katrina victim and dealt with FEMA? I don't think its that they dont care. I think its that the people in charge arent competent enough because if they were they would have private sector jobs. What are your thoughts on the matter? and does this make you want to get a gov't job to make our country a better place? I am planning on going to grad school for city planning. If only I were a brilliant mind.

The federal government is actually too big to attend more local issues like Katrina relief! Oddly enough, our American Civil War was actually about States rights and how big our Federal government should be. It seems almost prophetic that over a hundred years later we are seeing that the States should have more control to deal with issues the Federal government is having a hard time with.

They are brilliant at taking care of themselves and the big money that bought them before they got elected.

The others, hired by the government, live on welfare, our welfare because you cannot fire the worthless ones, which is why the payroll is so large, we have to keep hiring more because the ones we can't fire can't get the job done.

Bureaucrats are looking to screw you for the most part. Have you ever had to deal with them. They will not tell the truth and will try to get you to pay more than you have to, it is how they get promoted.

It is disgusting for the most part. But you know what they do get some brilliant ones but they all leave because the system is so corrupt. I worked for a city once, about six months, complained about all of the screw offs and drunks and then was told by personnel that I would be better suited in the private sector since they could not fire the screw offs and drunks.

I swear the entire personnel system in all forms of government needs to be run purely on merit, you can't do the job, you are gone.

Who of any quality wants to work in a system like that.

I think the generation who currently holds most of the higher ranking gov. jobs came from a time when one could have experience but not training and still get the jobs. Now, more training (such as a college degree) is required, so hopefully the new wave of gov. employees will have more skills to add to their experience.

I am getting a master's in public administration because I think there is so much more our government could do, if only it had the right people running it. I like to think I'm at least a good manager.

With the current climate designed and constructed by the Neos there are no good people willing to undergo the rigors of taking the character assassinations inherent with running against them. They are ruining this country and the world. Someone with the hide of an elephant and the mind of a lion yet fair minded must come along but I don't see it.

Bureaucracies breed mediocrity and generally "reward" incompetence. It's called failing upward. Since it's harder to fire someone than promote them into a spot with little real work or responsibility you do that and end up with idiots running the office.

There is a cliche in civil service occupations about people being promoted to their next level of incompetency. I have witnessed this when favoritism is a factor. There are also many dedicated civil servants who get and deserve to rise in their occupations.

How intelligent is a ventriloquist dummy? Someone else with an agenda is pulling their strings. That's why the stereotype that all politicians are crooked is true. They want power when they get into office, but their power is lost to the crooks that actually put them into office.

Our government officials are competent in that they can hide truth from American citizens--the truth that reveals that they don't care about American citizens. FEMA does not exist to help people. Here's the PROOF!...
