Real reality, I can't speak for. But the reality we deal with on a daily basis is a consensus reality -- reality is simply what we all agree that reality is. (e.g. The world is round now because we all agree that the world is round; a thousand years ago, the world was flat because everyone agreed the world was flat)
To ignore reality, one would be ignoring what the rest of the world says reality is. This individual could then define reality for him/herself and perhaps make reality better (or worse).
In short, if you ignore [this] reality, you will create your own.

Honestly? For the most part, nothing. But I guess it depends to what degree you are ignoring reality, and what you are inventing to take its place. I think of the time I spent at college as a nice 4-year vacation from reality. It was lovely, and had very few consequences. But I can imagine other cases where ignoring reality and/or inventing other things to take its place can be harmful and maybe even land you in a padded room.

That when you will enter a magical dream world, this world if full of colour and is brightly lit, further down the tunnel you can make friends with silly rabbits and laughing giraffes, smell the tulips of delight and listen to the enchanting music of the pear tree. Beware, though you can not go back to the cold damp nature of the grim reality you left behind.

If you want to meet people who are detached from reality spend time among the wealthy.
The wealthy can innure themselves from the results of their own actions. They can surround themselves with sycophants who constantly tell them how clever or attractive they are. They can escape to places where the weather is always good and there is no crime. Time belongs to them. They can gamble and lose vast sums without a care.
They have power without responsibilty.

This is what is called to be insane, or to live in the hell of darkness. But I sometimes ask myself who are the sane ones?
Who are the ones lost from reality? The reality of man, or god.
Are they the people who drift through life living by someone elses standards , and subcomb to the overdeveloped market of selling our souls, or idenity just to be accepted. Or is the ones who are locked up behind padded doors. The ones who dance in the garden with the Fairies with the exhileration of being connected to something that is special and gratifying in their minds. These people must be the insane ones, right. Isnt this what were told when someones behavior is unorhodox display of emotions.
Most genuises who ponder such questions because their minds do not think from the limitations of society, eventually find themselves in the arms of madness. Why because they question what it is they do not understand. When most choose to not understand without question.

It must be understood that reality is based on the perceptions one has on any given event.
Since our perceptions may differ so does our understanding of reality.

Define: "reality"
Then question: how do you think would we be able to recognize, understand and see reality?
So - it's not that we do purposefully ignore reality - we are just completely unable - with our very limited virtual reality (=thinking) to access reality

Ignoring reality is killing us. I agree with Humping Jesus when he says ignoring our environment is basically killing us and giving us cancer... Too many people out there are caught up in this status quo, making money and not caring at all about what's around them, i.e. pollution, disease...

If you ignore reality terrible things happen such as depleting the ocean of 90% of the large fish. Yes, I'm blaming you and all of us for that and the rest of the global assault on the environment. Please, continue as usual until you get cancer and die. That's ignoring reality.
