I think blacks do realize that some whites did not own slaves. Just as some blacks actually owned slaves. But not because they were poor. There were many poor white families that owned slaves, finace didn't always have anything to do with it. The history of slavery is very muddles because of records lost, hidden, etc. Some white who did own slaves bought them then gave then freedom because they did not agree. Some white bought slaves but even gave them payment for the work they did to buy freedom. Some black who owned slaves were buying back family members after they got freedom. There were many people involved in the slave trade and many people had different reasos for owning and not owning slaves.

I can tell you AMEN from the peanut gallery. My family was poor white trash from Eastern Kentucky. We didn't have enough food to put on the table let alone own anyone. My bestest friend in the whole world is black, we are like salt and pepper shakers. And I can tell you that it has never been an issue with us as 1. neither of us was alive then, and 2. why should it be an issue now, no one has slaves as it was abolished so long ago, why not let it heal and move on to more important issues, like true equality for everyone, no matter the race or color. There is truly more work to be done, we are not there yet, so lets not bicker about the past but work toward a better future.

Yes it is important that people realize that not all white owned slaves, but it also important to keep in mind that because of slavery, white society was able to grow to the level that it has. So in the end, every white person during the period of enslavement benefited from slavery, despite whether or not they owned any. And to comment on the people that keep on bringing up that people in africa sold other africans, the forms of slavery that existed in the united states differed greatly from those outside. In the US, slaves were property, stripped of humanity, while in slave systems outside of the US and European slave systems, people were enslaved yet still retained their humanity as they could easily re-enter the society they were in. So as opposed to here in the US where a slave would be thought of no differently than a shovel or an ox, in Africa a slave was someone who after they had completed their term of servitude, was often allowed to marry into the community or return to their homes.

It may seem a little obvious, but African Americans did not free themselves, it was because of the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. So that already tells that not every caucasian had bad views about African Americans, and keep in mind that there were many white abolitionists who tried to free slaves, one such would be Garrison. However, I believe that some African Americans today who still have a grudge today do so because they are looking for special attention and care. Meaning they will bring up slavery whenever they encounter some unfavorable position, in hopes to balance the situation out.

I think that the majority of black people that don't think of it like that are just being well... ignorant. Every single culture has at some point been either been slaves or owned slaves. Yeah what happened to our Ancestors was horrible, but here's the thing it never has happened to me. My great grandmother was a child at the end of slavery. And I remember her telling me stories about what she went through. But she always told me I tell you this not to put hate or fear in your heart, but so you can know where you come from and make sure you never have to go back. Now I lived in a predominately "White" neighborhood as a teenager and being one of the only Minority families there it was difficult, not because i didn't fit in, but because of those few raciest people who i had to deal with on a daily basis. But I've never understood why we let a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

They just need to realize that anyone living today was not responsible for slavery at all. A silly metaphor would be like white people seeking compensation from blacks because we invented football, basketball, and baseball, and they took over most of it. I think it is just stupid to hold grudges against people that had nothing to do with the problem. Todays black people aren't slaves, why dwell in it?

yes , indeed... as horrific as slavery was/ is, not every white person was involved with it,or approved of it... there were many white people that fought for freedom for slaves and helped them reach freedom during slavery, and there have been white people that were slaves as well.. personally I am only a second generation born here so none of my family was even in this country back then! my ancesters come from Italy, and Italy was invaded by Ethiopia...so .. do I hate Ethiopians ? of course not! that would be ridiculous...here in America I grew up with all races and ethic groups, and love them all! I ate, slept over , played and hung out with all races and still do..and it hurts to think that some people would hate or resent me because of the color of my skin, as much as it hurts me to see others treated that way in life.. it totally disgusts me as a human being and it is an offense to God who made us all.. ! my family members have various races and ethnic groups one cousin is married to some one of the asian race and I love her like my sister, another cousin is married to a hispanic guy, another cousin is the mother of a beautiful black /white daughter and I love her like my own child, and I have a black god daughter that I love and would die for..her mother and I have been best friends since I was 14 years old... and none of us see each other in color... I am only mentioning races to emphasize how ridiculous / insane all predjudice is! if your going to make a judgement about someone, do it on the soul/ inside of a person, not the outer shell!

LOL! Many black Christians only see Christianity because the real faith, inspite of ways, they occurred to change into Christians. it really is real that Christianity changed into in a lot of alternative international places earlier it reached Europe. it really is only at the same time as slave masters said it as an income they could use, to justify slavery, that many human beings forget Christianity did not start up in Europe. inspite of shade i don't think of that many Christians comprehend a number of the flaws that are written contained in the Bible. they only follow it blindly. Even in church homes and Sunday college the ministers will continually repeat usual thoughts, to their scholars. you should take a seat and skim the Bible hide to cover your self and ask a minister/priest about a un-usual tale and also you'll see, even they do no longer understand what it really is or what the **** it skill.

No I don't care which whites owned slaves. I'm proud to be white. As for using the slavery EXCUSE to explain away one's relative lack of success in society I find laughable.
