I have seen people say that white children who get abducted or kidnapped get more media exposure than minorities. I have to disagree. I think it is a matter of class. If you are upper middle class then you tend to be more 'liked' by the media. Case in point, there was a 23 year old white girl who lived in the public assistance housing in my city and she was raped and murdered in her own home by two guys she knew. Her case got no media exposure and I never really heard much about it. That really pissed me off because I went to school with this girl and she had a two year old kid.
A whitewoman who's husband owned a bank and lived a few blocks from my mom, got her house broken into and was murdered and her car was stolen as were some of her jewelry. This was a high profile case because she was rich!
The reason that minority children do not get much media exposure when they are kidnapped is because they do not come from rich families. A white child with poor parents wouldn't either

Jon Benet Ramsey and the girl that got kidnapped in the Caribbean were obviously rich. If one of Will Smith's kids got abducted you best believe the press would be all over that!

I tend to agree with you. It is sad that society
places higher values on people of wealth. As far as I am concerned we should all be treated the same
regardless of social status. That is what Dr.
Martin L. King was trying to get across to everyone.
It is a shame that not everyone was listening.
The media has become more interested in 'hype' rather than news to sell their product.

You said "The reason that minority children do not get much media exposure when they are kidnapped is because they do not come from rich families"

First of all, that statement if fallicious. You overgeneralized. There are many minorities who come from wealthy families. You're just projecting a stereotype.

I don't know about your town, but there's always media coverage of what you described by familes who are both rich and poor.

Now, if you're talking about Court TV, those stories are 1 of millions and they can't put every abducted kid on that show. They pick and choose based on the nature of the story. Ratings also plays a big role. After all, that's what television is all about.

i disagree, when you talk about a child, a 23 yo does not fall in that category.
black children specifically do not get the attention as any class white person.
how about Elizabeth Smart? nation wide attention for a girl(15 yo) who was to stupid to just get up and leave the house that she was left in unattended. but our hearts went out to her.
mean while back in the "hood " a 6yo that was kidnapped manages to chew through her ropes and escape her kidnappers after being held for a week, then she leads the police to the perps and they get busted. 0 news coverage.
you must live under a rock.

but if it makes you feel better then ok we'll say it really is just about money...

Money ='s power, in one form or another. As sad as that fact is, it's proven more and more true by the day.
