i suggest u to wait just a little longer for 6 months. i know it is a long time but at the same time Windows is releasing Windows Vista in early 2007 where as Intel is introducing its new Quad-Core processors which work at 4 times the speed of a normal computers and better than the current Core 2 Duo processor. the Intel Quad Core processor will be launched in november 2006. just wait a little and get a better and the latest PC. this advie i think will surely be useful to u.

You should never wait. the moment you buy your computer a better version will come out. When the new operating system comes out there will probably be problems for months. Many programs will not run until new versions are isued. Widescreen and top of the line is nice depending on what you are using the computer for. If you are editing and watching movies or playing games then a high speed model is needed. If you are only going to use it for the internet get the cheapest. By the way the laptop is the fastest selling model now. You may want to look at them.

That is a very open question with allot of answers. One person who answered below hit the nail on the head. It would be impossible to have the top of the line computer. No matter what you buy right after you buy it the next best thing will come out. So I would strongly advise against getting the most expensive of everything. I actually am a computer shopper as a side job...people pay me to find a computer for them. If you email me at ethanporterco@yahoo.com I will send you my phone number and give you some advice (free). There are too many things to consider espically not knowing what you budget is and what your needs are. I will tell you this...that 99% of the people at best buy, compusa, etc. or even when you call dell or gateway have no idea what they are talking about or will just flat out lie. I understand how hard it can be trying to decide espically when allot of the people out there have bias towards one manufacturer or another. Good luck with finding the right computer.

I would wait for a month or so. The major computer makers will include an 'upgrade' certificate to Windows Vista (the new version coming out in early 2007) to new computers closer to the end of the year.

I believe that the wide screen monitors are more targeted to those that are using their computers for viewing movies and high def TV. There's no movement that I know of for regular computer work to have a wide screen over a 'regular' monitor. I WOULD definitely get an LCD screen - much lower electric usage and extremely clear picture

my vote is to wait until thanksgiving

Yes, Vista is expected to be available early 2007. If you have the time to wait, you might want to wait for Vista then. But just because there is a new car coming in 2007 should not mean that you should not drive one now!

Spend that extra bucks for the best monitor you can possibly get. Get bigger, wider, and flat monitors. You will be thanking yourself every time you use your computer.

I think you will enjoy this article which is related to your question.

How about getting a pc that has less problems like crashing, viruses, spyware, etc. Is MAC in your question some where at the end ?

The format of the screen is not as important as what the screen is made from. LCD screens are the new and better technology for the next couple of years...(I will not get into how they work, lol). If you want top of the line--yet affordable enough for most people in the middle-class, go with the Sony VIAO. However, for a better deal with better service (I built my own workstation!...at the price of a PC), go to the Dell website and build your own. It's all about customization, baby, depending on what you want it do! Also, there is live tech support right on the website (and they offer student discounts.)http://www.dell.com/content/default.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
Be warned, though, they do not yet offer teh tablet computer (the computer that allows you to write on the screen, dierctly). I think, only HP offers that feature.

I didnt see Price is a concern, so get a Mac, they have allways had the best Hardware/Software performance and that OSX kix ..new Macs can dual boot,so if you really NEED windows, you can get the version that you like best after the security patches and fixes and updates are started.
Vista is allready on R1, microsoft says it isnt a patch, but it is a Revision.
You can run any os you want, look at what the os is made for, Macs are for Humans , PCs are crossplatform, Biz or Home Use. After you look at the Vista site, please note all the different versions, Home,Office,Media,School,Server,Laptop, crazy. One Mac OS/X one operating system, when you make something that works, it FUNctions.

don't wait for the new version of windows because like all windows products when it first comes out there are always issues. 3 months ago i bought a very very very nice HP laptop wide screen dv8000 series for 1300.00. It has everythig I need. Comes with windows media center (windows xp more geared to music, movies so on), 2 100gb hard drives, amd turion 64 mobile (i always liked AMD over pentiums, more stable I think). It has alot of power I think. Anyways if you want check it out. I like HP much better over any other computer (they recently acquired compaq), they are very stable. I never had problems with HPs, while as Dells and others tend to "crash" alot and gave me alot of headaches. As to wide screens they are nice if you watch movies on yor computer, lcd technology is so nice. Mycomputer has a dvd player and I can burn music, movies, so on.
Be prepared to pay a little extra for those nice features though. To me it was well worth it. graphics are great (I don't know what pc magazine was thinking when they wrote a review).... Your best bet if you're interested in an HP or any other computer go to a Best Buy or circuit city ( i bought mine at best buy) and look at them personally. Good Luck!!!!!!

Windows Vista is the new version that is coming out in 2007. but my mom told me that she heard on the news that it won't be as good as WindowsXP. they also said that WindowsXP and Windows98 is the best ones ever made. and if i were you, i would just get a regular moniter, because a widescreen will make you blind if you plan to use the computer everyday.
