yes, and what difference does it make, you only save about 4 dollars if you fill it up with unleaded instead or premium. so why even think about it. and if that is a factor then maybe you should get a car that isnt as high maintenance

Why take two vitamin pills if one will do the job! My wife and I have driven various Mercedes Benz vehicles for over twenty years. I just got my wife and new E350 4matic. It says to burn premium gas. I started to burn regular in it. There is no pinging, the car has just as much pickup as it did before, and, the mileage has not gone down at all. Some vehicles do need premium gas (my 2003 SL with the 5 liter engine did) and if you burn regular it will knock. If the engine knocks, put premium in it immediately as you can damage the engine. A friend of mine tried regular in his BMW and it started knocking like hell. Give it a try. Monitor you fuel mileage. If perchance it knocks, try a middle grade.

What is the difference between Premium and Regular gas. Premium has an added octane booster that prevents knocking. Even when you do not hear any knocking the engine management system will hear it and retard the spark. This will cause reduced performance, maybe not noticably but it will. It will also cause reduced mileages per gallon.
Stick with the Premium. In the long run your pocket book will like you.

Pete it depends on the compression ratio.
My Australian '83 S-class has an 8.3 to 1 compression ratio which means it can run quite happily on regular fuel.
Don't ask me why comp. ratios were lower in Australia, perhaps it was because they sold the same version in NZ which had only minimum fuel standards then. But there have been two or three grades available in Au land ever since I can remember.
I would not leave everything up to your knock sensor. Check your handbook. It might be worth joining an MB group on the net as well, some of those people really know what they are talking about.

You don't but the car will run crappy, but if its because of cost just switch like a pattern to sabalise the amount so you don't get crappy pefromance or running problems. but for me i would do this Supreme then regular then supreme then regular would still keep the car in really good shape but if you do use premium then reg. then premium then you might just get a very very very slight lower pefromance, but since its for the road it probly does not matter. once the E320 gets old just use regular becuase it does not matter but if you were driving a porsche you alway have to use supreme.

Yep!
Most Benzes have a knock sensor that will prevent serious damage if you use anything less but performance will take a serious nosedive, as will fuel economy. The cost per mile on regular is actually higher than on premium due to the much poorer fuel economy.

Yes.Using a lower octane could cause you more problems and your engine is not step up to run on lower ontane.All I have owned by the way for the last 15 years are Mercedes.

If you are the owner of a premium make automobile, my question is WHY would you be asking? The only reason to ask would be for monetary reasons, something that SHOULDN'T be an issue to you, unless you are living above your means. But in answer to your question, YES. Use of lower octane fuel WILL cause your vehicle to ping, and run poorly. Now, MY question would be, is it worth it?
