Who voted for Musharraf of Pakistan or just another Army general who took over.. Now calling himself President.

Not at all. First you have the socialist / communist dictator model: Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Jong Il, Castro, et al. Responsible for murdering their citizens, impoverishing them, and waging aggressive wars.

They you have the rightist dictators, like Pinochet. Get rid of the commies, create a safe, sane, productive country, turn it back over to the people for democratic elections as a free republic.

Funny how different the left treats Pinochet and Castro. Pinochet kills a couple thousand lefists then after squaring the country away, returns it to his people, and he is considered evil incarnate. Castro murders over 100,000 oppositionists, imprisons dissenters, and quashes all freedom and prosperity under his iron rule, and he is feted as a hero.

Can a lefty explain this gross and obvious hypocrisy?

The term Dictator has a very wide scope,all depend upon the area,for example most dictators in Africa and Middle east are backed by Colonial powers,in Pakistan traditionally Army Dictators are backed by West.Mao and Stalin Lenin Castro and Mrs Gandhi were backed by Local Interest Groups.Dictators in east Europe were backed by Soviet Union.Generally Dictators backed by other powers destroy the fabric of the nation,while the ones backed by locals bring social change and contribute toward the development of the country.By the way all Arab Sheiks must be considered dictators too.
