Does anyone know what it's called when your temperature drops instead of rising (fever). My normal body temperature is 97.6, and when I get sick it usually drops to about 96 instead of getting a normal fever. I've tried to look up details about this to see how or if it should be treated, but since I don't know what it's called, I haven't been able to find anything. Do you know what this is called, or know where I can find information about it?

Hypothermia is the medical term for a low body temperature.

Here's some info on it: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/first-aid-hypothermia/FA00017

Hypothermia is usually defined as a body temperature of under 95 degrees, though.
I can't think of a good reason for your body temperature to drop instead of climbing when you get sick. Is it possible that you just aren't keeping yourself warm when you are sick? If you drink any liquids, chew or eat anything 20 minutes before you take your temperature, it will be inaccurate. If you have been breathing through your mouth, you will also have a lower oral temperature.
The most accurate thing to do (and I know this is kind of gross) is to purchase a rectal thermometer, and use it according to the instructions. This will give you an accurate body temperature. Chances are, the reduction in your temperature is just normal for you. If you are concerned about this, the best thing to do would be to mention it to your doctor on your next visit.
Hope this helps!

Absolute Zero is 0º Kelvin or -273º Celcius and was proposed by Lord Kelvin way back in the mists of time. It is the temperature at which electrons stop moving and therefore there is no electrical charge in an object. The coldest we can get to it is super cooled helium which is 4ºK and also happens to be the temperature of the background of space, a remnant of the explosion energy from the Big Bang. Like the speed of light Absolute Zero is a constant that can not be exceeded.

Someone suggested taking your temperature rectally... just so you know, a rectal temperature will read approximately 1 degree higher than your actual temperature (I think because the bacteria in your colon produce heat). The most accurate way to approximate your "core" temperature is by the thermometers that read it from your inner ear.

You might be able to find the info you're looking for on: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hypothermia- it is diagnosed by taking a core temperature reading which is the most accurate reading obtainable. Stick a thermometer in your rectum and hold for 1 minute to get the core temperature.

***Hypothermia will cause your organs to shut down and is a life threatening condition so I beleive that your readings are probably just your norm.
