I would hope that if it got stuck you wouldn't leave it long enough for it to rot before going to the doctor to have it removed...
It could probably cause Toxic Shock Syndrome. Not sure about infertility, but you might die from it.

I had a friend back in high school, that got really sick suddenly. She had a fever of over 104. Her body broke out into a rash, and she had flu symptoms. She was sent to the hospital, and eventually they found that she had not just one, but two old tampons inside there. It caused Toxic Shock Syndrome, and another infection that I forgot what it was called. Evidently she had used one, and then probably bled through it. She didn't think about it when she put another on in. And probably did it again. She was mortified.

She later got married and wanted to try to have children. They have been in and out of fertility clinics for 4 years. The doctors say that her uterus looks fine, and that she should be able to concieve. Her husband should be able to conceive. So medically, she's fine. She still hasn't been able to have a baby.

It can cause infection however that is rare. One of my friends had a similar issue and had remaining symptoms (i.e. smell and discharge) for the first few days after removing it, but then it cleared up.

However, if you think there may be an infection or you arent able to remove it, please see a doctor.

In terms of infertility, the chances are EXTREMLY slim. the only chance of this occuring is if an infection IDD occur and went untreated for an extended period of time and ended up infecting other areas.

Good luck and have a good day :)

Yes, it can definitely cause an infection. Whether it will cause infertility depends on how bad the infection has gotten. Only a doctor can determine this for sure.

yes it can cause an infection. usually baterial vaginistis. it can only cause infertility if you ignore for a very long time(couple of weeks) and your cervix can probaby get so infected that you require some sore of surgical intervention. However, I would think that the smell and pain would cause you to seek medical help before that would happen.

Yes it can cause infections and infirtility. Most importantly it can cause Toxic Shock Syndrome. You can get severe candititis, and yeast infections. If the foreign object is not removed the chemicals used to treat and press the cotton can be released after over exposure causing infirtility. Toxic Shock Syndrome can cause death.

Please seek professional medical advice. This advice was not given by a medical prefessional.

It can cause Toxic Shock Syndrome which can make you infertile or kill you . It can also lead to PID which can cause infertility. If you get one stuck, you have to get it out! If the string is broken off, you have to reach your fingers in to get it. Yeah, I know that sounds gross but it needs to be removed and would you rather have to go to your doctor to have it done?

Yes, it can definitely cause an infection, many different kinds of it, and yes in the long run, when the infection travels up to your uterus and tubes and everything, you might get an even bigger infection where you might lose the function of your reproductive system.

If you can not remove this by yourself, you will need to see a gynecologist for removal. If the tampon stays in too long, possible side effects are (TSS) toxic shock syndrome.
