There's an old saying and it goes like this; "If you give a man a fish; you will feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and feed him for life."

Don't pass them up for jobs based upon bad credit resulting from unfinished medical bill payments or student loans. If they have good qualities, don't pass them up or you're teaching them (certain ones particularly) the things they need to know to begin to hate...and you know what happens when people hate? They don't give a whit about the community they live in anymore and don't care if they should be productive in it coz they presume they are unwanted. Then they begin to do bad things against the community.
Others will just leave if they can and maybe come back and take over the community.
Still others will have a bad life forever filled with good choices gone wrong that should have worked out...but no one would give them a chance. These people tax the government in many ways.
It's easier to give a poor person a job than to let them walk away.

WE CAN TREAT THEM LIKE HUMAN BEINGS, no pity, real people, (not like its a contagious disease). we dont know what where who or life story. they just appreciate being treating like there special. (AND THEY ARE, WE CAN ALL ONE DAY BE HOMELESS,) TREAT PPL THEY WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. WHAT COMES AROUNT GOES AROUND. I LOVE TO SEE THE APPRECIATION (even if its being used for the wrong reason) especially when you dont just make them look like there just in the way. i dont run and hide i, give them money before i put my gas in and talk to them there. there Gods blessings and they deserve to be treated like the they are a part of society, (THEY ARE) EVERYONE LOOK UP HUMILITY, WHEN YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT PART OF YOURSELF THAN AND ONLY THAN ARE YOU BECOMING ONE WITH YOURSELF. dIdnt mean to preach, im so imperfect, but i am 43 and am living KARMA every day of my life. TALK ABOUT LEARNING ABOUT LIFE . GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND GOD BLESS RUTHIEBRAT ruthiebrat@yahoo.com

we can help by understanding them and look for things to do or give them that will help them. we can vote people in office at will make new laws to give them the assistance they need, housing, food, health insurance, help with utilities and other expenses..if on assistance raise their monthly grant to a live able level of funds, develop more non profit agencies to help in their communities.
we also can help on a more personal level, right in our neighborhood ... [ residents that live on your street form a committee to assist someone who needs help [poor] every one puts up $$ to cover their pge bill, and when one goes to the store pick up some extra food and deliver it to them.....it would not cost much for each person .
i do this in my senior building, i have 38 neighbors, disabled and retired seniors, i ask friends and family, neighbors to donate food items, quarters to do laundry, etc and i give to the neighbors on a regular basis..........on Sunday's i always cook up a meal and we all eat together [at no cost to them] i am happy to do what i can and it makes me feel good about myself because in a small way i am helping....[i am also on social security and i am not rich]
