We hunt them, we wear them, we use them for furniture (like skins and stuff), we test drugs on them, WE ARE SO MEAN TO THEM WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Sorry, I get carried away sometimes. I couldn't find a category AGAIN- so I just chose a random one about pets or something.

The simple answer is because we can. When asked what the definition of murder is, most people would reply, the taking of a life before it should rightfully end. Surely this means that meat is murder. I do not eat meat.

All these issues that you have brought up, I like hundreds of thousands of other people, are trying to campaign to stop them happening. However, we need the world as one to join together and fight. People won't do it. They eat meat, because they say it tastes nice. They don't care about the barbaric living conditions that these animals spend their lives in.

As for animal testing, this is bang out of order. hey proved that this doesn't work when they tested a substance on dogs. The dogs lived. They then diluted it down by 50 times, and tested it on 6 humans. The humans were left fighting for their lives.

However, people turn a blind eye. I work at a rescue, where we see many nasty situations. We tell people, and tears instantly come to their eyes, and they say how dreadful it is. But they do not want to help campaign. Does this make any sense? It doesn't to me.

Hunting animals for food or like the Indian's wear them for protection is not cruel. What is cruel is testing agreed, but also it is having a pet that you don't bond with or you are not the pack leader(strong enough) to give them love and discipline. Or abusing them by sticking them in the back yard only to get food and water, they are feeling creatures except they feel energy, that's how they communicate in the wild. Test scientist should have to test on them selves first agreed!!!!

That's a tough one, but I think the problem is that the people who are being cruel don't see it as cruelty. It probably goes back to when we lived in caves and in order to survive the cold winters, we'd skin an animal and wear its fur. As we've become more and more dependent on the furs of other animals, our own has evolved into a light cover of hair, and there are many other ways we've become dependent on animals as humans have become weaker and more intelligent over the generations.

The other reason we're cruel to animals is for what might be seen as a 'greater good'. Drugs that are tested on animals are usually created to stop humans from suffering in a particular way, and this small scale testing often prevents nasty side effects from being released on to the general public. Testing these products on one or two animals can prevented a lot of nasty things killing a lot of people, and like many ethical dilemmas, it's a case of choosing the lesser of two evils.

The good thing is, people are certainly starting to realise how cruel animal testing is, and there are plenty of products available that aren't tested on animals, as well as fake furs. Sadly, there are still people in white coats squeezing toothpaste into a monkey's eyes somewhere, and while it's a generally unpopular thing to do, it's unfortunately the most effective way we have of preventing problems happening to millions of humans.

my belief is that the human race in general is inherently self-centered with shallow vision and shallow understanding. this extends not just to how we treat animals but how we will exploit any others of our own species as well, if we deem them "inferior," or somehow less than "us," or unable to defend themselves against us. and especially if that "inferior" group can provide us with goods or services that we want~~ well then, all the more reason for the strong to take advantage of the weak.

animals are the easiest for us to exploit because they can't communicate with us and we can overpower them. it's that simple. not a very noble reason. it's simply the truth.

and it fascinates me whenever anybody justifies the cruelty and exploitation of animals by pulling God into it and claiming God put us at the top of the food chain, etc. anybody who really studies any religious text will read how mercy, compassion, protection of the weaker among us and "blessed are the meek," are what God | Jesus | Allah | Yaweh | Buddah etc. etc. want from the faithful. not violence. not cruelty.

Some humans are cruel to not only animals but each other. Some aren't. Perhaps we'd all do well to remember to treat any living thing in the manner we'd like others to treat us. That would be a good place to start.

that's what animals are here for.. to eat and use as clothing... it's been like that forever. it's not mean... ok I'll give you the testing.. that's not the nicest thing... but otherwise we are just using animals for what we need...
I'm sure you've heard of the food chain...
and would you rather us be doing the things mentioned to other human??
think about it.

Either ignorance, selfishness, or sadism.

Though, I wouldn't classify hunting as cruelty toward animals, provided you eat what you kill. Animals eat other animals all the time, it's just a part of nature.

Cos we have a strong feeling of inadeqecy in todays modern life and the easy way is to lash out at the weakest of our lives, namely pets and these animals look up to us for food warmth and love.

Sad indictment of this world that the need to get one over on anyone/thing errupts in us hurting the weakest

It isn't cruel to hunt and wear them or use them on furniture.
If it's cruel to hunt and kill and animal then every carnivore in the wild is cruel as well.
Do you think a tiger or lion or snake is cruel?
Don't forget, we are part of nature, too.
Testing drugs on them may be cruel, but the government won't allow us to test drugs on people at an early stage of product develop or pure research.
