To test if the light comes on when you close the door, simply open the door, and press the button with a finger and see if it lights up.
You can't just change the polarity by changing a lightbulb, to do that you need some knowledge of electricity and do it on purpouse.
If i were you i'd change the bulb, but, i dunno what you've done so far or how old it is, if it's brand new, just take the bulb to the shop where you bought and you'll get a new bulb, if that still doesn't work, there might be a cable that is somehow not connected.
If you've reversed the polarity of the fridge, it shouldn't freeze, just basicly blow up in your face, or at least the fuses in your house where the power comes in.
In Short , change bulb, see what happens.
work, you're oke
not work, it's probably the wiring
and i can go on with options, but i'd have to be there before i go through the trouble

No you have not reversed the polarity, it is impossible. The most likely thing is that your bulb has failed. Switch off the electricity at the mains socket, best to unplug it, take out the bulb and then reconnect the power. Obtain a new bulb of the same type and size as the one you have removed. Once again turn off the power supply to your refrigerator, or unplug it, fit the new bulb and then switch the power back on. If the new bulb does not work but your refrigerator is still working well, maybe you should get an electrician to look at it to make certain that it is safe.

to check if it comes on when you close the door, there should be a wee switch next to the light that the door presses when it shuts and usually this switches the light off. just press this yourself and if the light goes on then the polarity or woteva has bn reversed, if not then the bulb has jst broken and u need a new one!!(although u would need a new one either way)

There should be a little button or protrusion along the face of the door frame that activates the light. Find the button and push it to see what happens. Appliances generally use 40 watt bulbs. Have fun.

What you should do is either clamber into the fridge yourself and get someone to close the door, ot employ a vertically challanged person to do it for you. Thus you will know the answer and wether to buy a new fridge or not

I don't think you just reverse polarity like that. But you have an excellent imagination!
