There is a 26 year old girl I work with who has 9 kids. I'm not even kidding. She is single and 7 of the kids have different fathers (there are one set of twins). Two of her kids live with her mom and one with her aunt.
I went to school with this girl who has four kids by different fathers. She goes out drinking every night and has her brother who is mentally handicapped watch her kids.
There is a girl who lived next door to my friend and she was about 28 and had 5 kids and was pregnant with another. Her kids were malnorished and abused. My friend said her baby would wake up in the middle of the night crying and she would not attend to it. The baby would be fed with dirty bottles with dried milk crusted all over them. She would beat her kids for every little thing they did wrong and would have the oldest who was 10 babysit when she went out! I called children's services on this woman twice and nothing happened! She ended up moving. I also heard that she was deliberatly keep getting

pregnant so she could stay on public assistance. I can name many more situations like this. It's not like this is a one in a million deal and I don't understand why the government does not take these cases more seriously. It almost seems like a 'taboo' subject bc people are too worried about offending anyone. Nevermind that these kids are the ones being punished and raised in horrible conditions! It really makes me sick. Does anyone else agree with this and what do you suppose would be a good solution if there is one?

It's a really sad situation for these children. I think if you're on public assistance you shouldn't have more children, you just shouldn't be allowed. But, then what happens ? The mother doesn't go to the doctor and get prenatal care? I don't know what the answer is. People should have more regard for themselves and their children. I pay for my medical insurance, my copays, my prescriptions and it really does piss me off when I see women come to where I work(in a medical facility) with their medicaid cards and their Prada bags. They have nicer clothes and fingernails than I do. But, you know what hard working single mothers have that these sort of people don't? Dignity and self respect. Something needs to be done about this, but I don't know
what that is. I sound very mean and I am not. I see it every day.
I just want to tell these women that medicaid, if I'm not mistaken, pays for birth control, unlike my insurance.

People do not know how lucky they are to live in the United States. They are being enabled to become irresponsible and if they were in another country they would be homeless and beg for hand outs on the street.
****There have been many efforts in the 1900's aimed at reforming the various outlets of public assistance but the end result is that bipartism squabbles prevent any progress. Another great obstacle is that the people that are really deserving of these public assistance programs will suffer greatly with any amount of reform. I personnally beleive that everyone except the physically or mentally handicapped should be absolutely responsible forthemselves and their children. Unfortunately we live in a culture where you just can't tell people what to do without someone telling you to mind your own f u c k i n g business.

I would say srop sending them public assistance money for their illigetimate kids. Why am I paying for these hose beast to keep knocking out kids to stay on public assistance? I would also mandate a sterilization program for those who have children they can't support and are unwilling to do anything to improve their situation. Of course these things will never happen, because of left leaning sentimentality. Aside from that, my sister has two kids from her late husband, when she went to get some assistance they said she didn't qualify, because the kids had the same father and they weren't mixed or an ethnic minority, besides she made $25,000.00 a year which was too much money.

wow that sucks! You can't really do anything because it's their lives their familes and they have their own, you should worry about yourself!!! Just mind your own business and there wont be a problem. No offense, but what else can you do?? They are old enough to do what they want, and they are not breaking the law. I'm not defending them because i'm in the same situation(not in the same situation), but I think all you really CAN do is the thing you're doing now, which is calling CPS. Other than that, you can volunteer one day to sit with their kids. And your other question about that being the reason for US violence, I do not think so. I'm afraid it's because of a lack of education, and maybe this too, but it's not ALL because of this.

I agree somewhat. People tend to forget that up until the age of modern weapons and age-extending medical treatments, the human race was subject to the same "survival of the fittest" as the animal kingdom.
It used to be that if you had too many kids some would die for lack of being able to provide enough food for them. Thus, not as many kids. Likewise, women weren't provided the healthcare as today which resulted in higher infant mortality.
It also used to be that those who were weak or cowardly were the ones killed by the hands of those stronger and smarter than them in order to survive. WIth the dawn of weapons, anyone can pull a trigger regardless of their brawn or mental capacity.
Our genetic make-up includes the fight or flight intinct which has almost entirely lost it's usefuleness for our survival. We no longer have to fight to survive, but that driving instinct is rechanneled as usesless violence towards others...exasperated by the fact that the population continues to grow without a natural mechanism to ensure that only the strongest and smartest survive.

I definitely feel that this situation is contributing toward the decline in morals and safety in the world, let alone the U.S.
Children who grow up and see that mom can't stay loyal to one man, or that dad can't stay loyal to one woman, or that their parents don't work hard for a living, or that it's okay for daddy to abuse mommy - learn from these examples and they pass them on to their children. There are obviously other side effects this brings and other circumstances surrounding the families, but I think you get the idea.
The situation is really too big for the Governments to handle, and they're too busy fighting politically and religiously charged wars anyway to handle the seeds of the problem.

I agree. Yes people to this all the time to stay on public assistance. It just amazes me how someone like her can be so fertile and someone who would make an excellent parent has many problems even getting pregnant.
The worst part if she were ordered to have her tubes tied some right wing organization would fight tooth and nail for her. Never mind she has 9 kids not being cared for.

Why would you even equate the things you are saying to the violence problems in America? First of all, you seem to be a very judgemental person who should mind her own business more. If you truly care about these people, why not offer to help them in some way? You never know, a simple act of kindness can make all the difference in someone's life. Try it!

The book "Freakanomics" drew the connection between a decrease in violence since the legalization of abortion in the US. It's controversial but is rooted in statistics, numbers, etc. and I believe it.
The more a child is wanted, the greater supervision and support they get from their family and community, etc. the less likely they are to commit acts of violence or a crime. By no means am I saying children from large families commit crimes, but I am saying children who grow up without feeling love, a sense of self worth or that they are supported are more likely to lose their way and are less capable of seeing success in their futures.
