Did anyone hear about the football team from Oscoda, Michigan that had its season cancelled after an 0-4 start and scoring no points. The players and parents wanted to keep playing, but the coach and the school board, said that the team was unsafe on the field. I think that this is a bunch of crap, b/c if the kids want to play let them play. The coach also said that the team was physicaly dominated in each game, and they could get hurt, well if you ask me that is called getting beat. Does anyone agree with me or do you think that the season should have been cancelled?

Dan Patrick is talking about this right now on ESPN Radio. This is absurd. There are NFL Teams that get manhandled by other teams (Oakland to name one). Should Oakland cancel their schedule? Maybe they should convert it to Touch Football and not keep score so their feelings don't get hurt.

That's debatable. Every state has a high school football team that loses all the time. When I was in high school there was this football team of tall, skinny guys who regularly lost by 70 points, very rarely scoring. Even in College it exists. Look at the Temple Owls. They've lost 16 straight games and thus far in the season they have scored 10 points, and allowed 174. That could also be considered unsafe.

If they're getting physically dominated each week, then isn't it the coache's fault? The way it was looked to me, the coach is just trying to save his job since he's just a first year coach.

That's the most pathetic and rediculous thing I've heard of. If the kids want to play and aren't embarassed by losing, then let them play. Not every NFL superstar played on a great high school team, and who knows, maybe one of these kids is really great just surrounded by a team that isn't great. No one questions how good Randy Moss is, but he only has 78 yards on the season because his team sucks so bad. They're potentially ruining the futures of some of these kids by not letting them play.

Football is a contact sport and by definition it is unsafe. Maybe this school district would have them do synchronized swimming? Oh, no, wait, that's too dangerous and unsafe, they might drown.

If they don't have enough warm bodies to realistically field enough players to finish the season, then oh well. The pride of finishing the season isn't worth having players suffer severe injuries. I'll admit I've never heard of a move this drastic, but there's a first time for everything.

I'll defer to those closest to the situation and say the coach probably made the right call, much as he might have hated to do so... He knew it would be a hugely unpopular move that would kill his career, so I don't think he's trying to save his own a$$

Season shouldn't have been cancelled. I would file a lawsuit if I were the parents. That is cowardly behavior. That demonstrates giving up and poor sportsmanship. The coach and the school board should be fired.

I just read the story. What a horrible message to send to these kids. When the going gets tough, QUIT!! I find it hard to believe that it took this school 4 games to find out that they weren't very good. Sports serve other purposes than just winning and losing. Shame on you Oscoda Board of Ed and coach Kyle Tobin. You have really done a disservice to these boys.

As long as the kids and parents both still wanted to play, I think it's crap that their season was canceled.

I read this story, and I agree with this in a way. They were getting owned playing. Its like an NFL team vs a highschool varsity team. But I blame the Athletic Director for not applying to be in a weaker conference. Lots of highschools do this if they know there team isnt at par with the other teams.

That is stupid. Sounds like they need a new coach. That is just telling the kids quit before you even start. If they want to play then they should be allowed to play. As long as they are having fun who cares about their record.

Right now it's in a lockout but they're probably gonna lift the lockout on Monday or Wednesday.
