We had people not coughing up money for our lotto at work so we hung a notice up that anyone who didn't pay by Friday would have there numbers withdrawn.

Put simply you have to be cruel to be kind.

Well, what we do at my job is pretty easy. We have a sign posted up whenever we do the lottery. For example, for the Wed, night lottery, there will be a sign up from Mon-Wed, and the money is due Wed by noon. For a Saturday drawing, the sign is up from Thursday to Fri and money is due by noon.

Our is completely optional. The person who manages the company lottery has everyone who participates sign a contract that says they understand the rules, and that they would only be included in any winnings that they have contributed to. So, if we win $100 million, AND IF THEY DIDN'T PUT IN, THEY COLLECT NOTHING and in the event that happens, the company or any employees are not liable. Winnings that are less than $100 are used to purchase new tickets. All of the tickets are photocopied, and copies are handed out to participants.

We have a box where everyone drops their money in. There is a checklist sheet with all the names of those who played before, and you just check the box next to your name once you drop your money in. We have a pre-determined contribution amount, which is $3.

I have the utmost sympathy for you. I have seen how disgracefully people can act when it comes to parting with a couple of quid for a syndicated lottery or football scheme.

Personally, I'd do my own lottery, and bugger the rest of them. Hand this thankless job to someone else to suffer.

Tell us more about it, are you going out and buying tickets for everyone or are you doing your own in house lottery?
If I were you I'd get them to pay when they enter, if they don't pay they don't enter, and then keep all the money in an envelope until it's needed.

get them all to sign a contract that says if they do not pay you, they are out first time. Harsh, but it works!
