Is the rubbing compuond always going to turn black?

Or is it a chemical thing. Do I keep using the compound , buff shine compound buff shine until no more black or will it always be black.

I am shining a stainless stell sink

What color is the object that you are buffing?Usually the cloth gets chaulky and the color of the paint that it is removing. Older paint is laquer so it is on in many layers and a layer or 2 removed does not make a difference. There can be a chemical reaction however that turns black. Again, what is being buffed and what is the contents of the rubbing compound?
