Suicide, is always a question, for the survivors.

No one can state simply that he/she was upset/depressed because of THIS, and that is all...

So, his suicide revolves around the following: "The effects of his epilepsy and personal problems, such as an impending divorce from his wife, may have contributed to Curtis' suicide by hanging at the age of 23. According to the book, Touching From A Distance, Curtis had taken an overdose of his epilepsy medication and ended up in hospital only a few months before his death. The overdose was believed to be a 'cry for help' but Curtis himself was said to have told his bandmates that he hadn't meant to overdose. A friend was said to have taken him to a graveyard after he had left hospital to show him where he would have ended up had the overdose killed him. The night Curtis died, days before Joy Division was to begin its first American tour, he watched one of his favourite movies, Stroszek by Werner Herzog. He later hanged himself in his kitchen while reportedly listening to Iggy Pop's The Idiot. On top of the LP cover was a small cut out photograph of a grey sky taken by artist David Horvitz. Curtis' viewing and listening choices continue to generate speculation as to the true reasons why he took his life. Some commentators hold that he simply wished to die young, being "in love with the myth of the rock'n'roll star who dies young"."

Humans, as just another animal in this world, would not normally have had such a wide thought process that we do at the moment in the evolutionary chain of events (we might be ape men again one day). So the ways of modern life and the mental strains that other animals at least do not have to endure are with us as humans.
And some people cant adjust to the false way of living and some crack and kill themselves.. either quickly (suicide) or slowly (ie alcoholism, drugs).
The animal mind took over and ceased his existence.

'Suicide is Painless', the theme song from the film and series 'M.A.S.H'. Amongst others, the Manic Street Preachers did a cover; ironically, as band member Richey Edwards disappeared three years later and was presumed to have committed suicide.

If you are a fan of Joy Division, you should be able to pick up on the fact that he was so completely depressed for quite some time. Just listen to what he was saying in his music.

He hung himself in his mother's house the night before he was suppose to leave for Joy Divisions first North American tour.

They rock!!!!

ohhhhh....you meant why? i do not know.....i always assumed it was the pressure and really their music wasnt that "up" so he may have had some emotional issues.

if you listen to joy division's music, you can hear the depression taking over his personality, from album to album..

with song titles like "a means to an end" and "isolation", the guy was crying out for help, and nobody could hear him, apparently..
