When he was young he nearly drowned, his weakness is water.
His abillities are.... he doesnt get sick, he has more than natural human strength and he has the power to see into people. When he touches people he see's the bad things they have done or are doing. Well thats what happens in the movie.

Bruce Willis's powers in the movie were that he could not get hurt or get sick. Even though his kryptonite was being in water...
He probably could be extremely strong, since feeling pain would be minimal, and lifting weights would be easy. That could have been one way he developed strength.

Willis had wolverine-like powers of regeneration. Although he could feel pain, he was immune to permanent damage. due to these amazing recuperative powers, he was able to realize great personal strength as well.
But only after Sam Jackson awoke his potential psychologically.
