the best thing to do mate is take it in to a game shop in your local town they have disc cleaners there!! . They will charge you £2 or something but then you know it has been done right thats what i do with all mine !!!!!

you can buy one of those scratch fixer things (i think they are called cd/dvd repairer)
or
get a piece of emery cloth (at least 1000 grit) (sells them at the local home supplier) and rub the back of the dvd to it.
place the emery cloth on a flat surface and rub the disc in a circual motion on the cloth
then clean the disc with a cleaning solution or you could or"
just use some rubbing alchohol. it doesn't seem like it makes the scratch dissapear but, your ps2 has a lot easier time reading it.

Use a lint free cloth with some toothpaste,(normal, not gel or any other type) and buff the scratch out starting from the centre and out towards the edge, do not circle!, then rinse off and dry .

It is almost impossible but if it is minor then go 2 game or HMV amnd get some scratch remover formula.
