Not self centered...but I agree with you about the flag waving...it's quite something...and nationlism does breed war........I just don't think americans see beyond their own borders sometimes...how do I say this without sounding like I'm bashing americans(because I am not)?... they can come across to less fortunates peoples in other nations as being terribly superior in their own eyes and insensitive to other poorer peoples plights..I've heard them criticizing other cultures when they were in a foreign nation's country and it comes across as really negative. I don't believe for a minute that all americans are like this..but it doesn't take many to leave a negative impression.

I love Americans I spent a year in New Jersey with the most wonderful family. As long as I live I will never forget how friendly and warm Americans naturally are.

Poorly educated compared to the UK? Yes maybe some but certainly not all. A little unworldly and untraveled? Yes. But the best of people.

I love the pride they have in their nation! Best of the best of the best Sir! And the words cool, neat and klutz. Have you never seen Grease?

To begin with, "Americans" are all of us who live somewhere between Alaska and Argentina. And I don't think there is nothing you can say that applies to us all, other than the fact we share a continent.

Now, if you mean US citizens/inhabitants, I think many of them ARE self-centred, because they have never needed to be different. They sadly ARE the centre of the world. In fact, if you are from the USA (which I'll assume because you wrote 'centered') giving yourselves exclusivity over the word 'American' would be a sign that you are a bit self-centred.

I think every country is self-centered. I've gone to Italy and seen plenty of Italian flags everywhere and likewise in England.

I knew an American who turned out to be very self centred, but I don't judge a whole nation on the faults of one person. There are good and bad everywhere

So sarah18 knows one American and judges the entire nation because of that one person. How many millions of Americans are there?

Of course they can't all be self-centred. Nations are made up of individuals, not clones.

Yes, sometimes, but then again so are a lot of other people from different countries. They might have lots of flags around, but then again, so does countries like England. It's just patriotism.

Absolutely. I love America and I love living here, but I am sooo tired of listening to people complaining about their lives and how they don't have this and they don't have that and can you believe I can't do that anymore. We are the most advanced culture in the world, we are the richest nation of them all and no one is grateful for what they have! They always want more. Perhaps it is time we stop comparing our lives to other Americans and compare them to people from third world countries.
