"leave it to beaver" was fiction. But I understand the question. Was things better years ago, well...yes and no. It's like asking if you'd like to live in the past...like medieval times or wild west days or the 70's. Well life expectancy was real low in olden times, we didn't have things like antibiotic or pain killers, not to mention ice cream and soft drinks. In the 50's and 60's a lot of things were different, but they just didn't have all the stuff and technology we do now. But trust me cars were still cars...kids were still kids. Murders still happened, in fact we actually live a cleaner, safer, healthier, and better quality life as time progresses...it's the choices that lead us down the wrong path....like choosing greasy cheeseburgers and fries super-sized with bacon over a good home cooked meal...why...is it cause leave it to beaver mom isn't home to cook it ...or is it because she chose to work or has to so they can pay the bills...on that new car, new house, computer and all those tech stuffs.

Hhhhmmm ... not necessarily better, but different. Same world, Different worries. More innocent and naive. The Cold War was the big worry and the psychos operated within their own borders. Back then 'a village raised a child' and everyone looked out for each other. Today, we hide behind curtains, gates and walls. A child is hurt, or killed, every minute of every day, and we tsk ... tsk and lament on what a terrible waste.

Apparently it wasn't --but when I was a child it certainly seemed so....I was never told not to talk to any strangers---there were no strangers in my area...I grew up in a city of about 50,000 people....we never locked our doors ...in case of trouble I could go to anyone's door and child abuse and things were never heard of...but now I hear about all the things that went on and realize that I and my parents were terribly naive...or maybe it just really was a time when all the bad things didn't happen...we walked to school everyday alone...we went everywhere on the bus and to the theatre by ourselves at 8 or 9 years old...but no longer is it like that...the day that JFK was assassinated somehow changed the western world...it was never as innocent after that.....

There was less crime. more upward mobility, and such a thing as job security.. Life was more simple, less hurried, and one income supported a family. However, there was far more discrimination then, and people were really stressed out over nuclear weapons and communism. Life was certainly not as laid back as portrayed on "Leave it to Beaver".

No, about the same, on the average. Better for some, worse for others. It just looked better on TV.
