If you don't have any papers, you arent divorced. You can find out the status by calling the court house. Sometimes its even online.

If the person that filed for divorce doesn't have an address to serve you (or pretends to not know) they would have to put an ad in the paper alerting you that they have filed for divorce. Bottomline is you can very well be divorced and not know it. Go to the family clerks office in the town you were married in and have them do a search.

Usually the court sends a letter to alert you that the divorce has been finalized. But, like already mentioned, it would be wise to call the court.

you have to be served divorce papers, and you can also go down to the courthouse to see if there is actual papers on you
