No most pleco are the least likely to get sick. That said any fish being put into to a new tank is stress, and has a lowered immune system. Add to this your tank might already have diseases present in the tank. Your current fish are non stressed and have already developed a strong immune response to the diseases in your tank. (This is why some people always seem to "buy fish with ich", when in reality it's already in their tank.)

As far as the "body slime" that could be a number of things. (Color of slime is kinda of important.) I'd treat with a wide spectrum medication or combination of meds.

Natural route:
melafix, and primafix

Budget route:
Marcyn plus or
Jungle Labs Fungus Eliminator (note this is anti-protozoan, antibacterial, and antifungal agent)

Kitchen sink route (only if your original treatment fails and it's spreading):
Trisulfa (I'm assuming here that the body slime is an opportunistic infection.)

Whenever you put a new fish in your tank you should use Melafix. You need to take the filters out of your cleaning system and just let them run. Yes, your tank will get grimey for a couple day, you should use this for at least 3 days and maybe depending on how big your tank is 5 days. After that put the filters in and any hidden illness the new fish may have will not spreead in your tank.
