When I hug the man in my life I lift my arms up over his shoulders and hug him tight across the back of his shoulders pulling him down to me. He and my guy friends are all taller then me.

When I hug my guy friends, should I NOT be lifting my arms up around their shoulders? Should I just be reaching in for a quick hug by the waist or is reaching up to them ok also??

What is the correct socially acceptable hug? Mind you no one is complaining when I hug them, I just do not want to give the wrong impression. I care for my friends, it is why I hug them, people these days go to long without showing those close to them they care. I dont want to do that.

BUT I do want to make sure my behaviors are socially acceptable to everyone. lol I want to refrain from inappropriate contact ;) Well for the most part lol

So please, opinions anyone??

I'd say you should hug any way possible, in other words, you choose. You hug them the way you feel about them. Just like kissing, hugging is another way of expressing your feelings. I also think it depends who hugs first, because if they hug you first then hug them back the same way they hug you. Again this should be your decision, your thoughts, your feelings, your friendship. If the people you hug accept it or are comfortable with it then those are your true friends.

ok, my opinion is you should not hug your guy friends if you have a love of your life. It may be plutonic to you but you never know what others feel deep down inside. I think if you are worried what others are thinking you should absolutely not be giving any kind of hug to another guy other than your boyfriend. I agree that people go to long without showing those close to them that they care. But you can show them without being physical. Men are very physical creatures. I think you are playing with fire. It sounds to me you like the attention you are getting. I would just be very very careful. I can't see this being a good thing. Hug your girlfriends not your guy friends, nobody will get hurt.

I don't feel that there's a wrong way, but I do hug my male friends and boyfriend differently from one another, just out of respect for my boyfriend... I fill that hugging a guy with your arms around his shoulder and pulling him to you is sort of intimate and that hug should only belong to your boyfriend... ~**Hoped I help a little**~

there is no correct or wrong way to hug a friend...it's the emotion you put into it....i have friends that i will just give a quick hug with my arms around the waist, others i do reach up around their shoulders, but its all in the emotion....when i hug my boyfriend, since he is taller than me, i regularly put my arms around his waist, but i hold him tight....you decide how you want to hug them, other people will judge regardless...and you shouldn't care as long as your man, knows the situation with every friend of yours...take care

If these people all know you, know how you feel about them, and about the man in your life I don't think you have anything to worry about. Nobody should be getting any wrong ideas because they already have the full story.

One arm over the shoulder and one arm under is good.
