They say that they forced the flight attendants to let them in. One was killed after she let them in. So they say

Before 9/11 the cockpit doors didn't lock from inside the cockpit. Now they do and that at least keeps the pilots safe to control the plane.Also, there are alot more undercover agents on planes now. On 9/11 the terrorists used a boxcutter held to necks of flighattendants and pilots. They also said there were bombs on board.

I'd say they got into the cockpit through the door. I'd find it hard to believe that they climbed outside a moving plane and got in through the window.
