First unplug your mouse, clean it, and then plug it back in securely (all while your computer is off). Turn on your computer, move the mouse to see if it works. Check the mouse speed on your computer by going to Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, and then to Mouse. If it is set to the normal speed yet your mouse still does not work, it's time for a new one! :D

Open the little round door under your mouse, take the ball out and check to see if there's dirt and gunk stuck in there. If there is, use a toothpick and carefully remove the dirt. When dirt builds up in this area it can cause the mouse to stop working. It used to happen to me all the time but now I clean it like once a week.
If that's not the problem, take your mouse plug out of its port and try blowing into it. Turn off your computer, then restart it with your mouse still unplugged. When your computer turns back on, plug your mouse back in, most likely your computer will detect that you have just added a device to your computer and will ask you to program it, just follow the prompts.
