Political science is a great field to go into right now, especially studying international relations or comparative. While knowing a second language is not a must, it would be a good idea to get a basic knowledge of french down as a good majority of the diplomatic core speak it.
Studying poly-sci can lead to the following: law, any kind of governmental job, policy, non-profit, and countless others. The big demand right now is comparative. i.e. agencies (especially governmental) need people who know about the middle east and its political structure. A graduate degree in poly-sci is basically a way to write your own ticket. If you study public administration you could get a job in any city you wanted (within reason) and make pretty good money starting out (60-70,000 in the mid-west). If you get your doctorate the world is your oyster. Mind you, graduate school is not easy and will take more time.
Poly-sci has opened a lot of doors for me and I would encourage it.

I am in the same boat as you are. I'm in my third year of college and pursuing this major. I have a background in healthcare and healthcare reform, so I plan on using this major to advocate for healthcare, health literacy, and possibly other humanitarian efforts. I'm going towards International Affairs, so I plan on learning French and Spanish. I already know 2 other languages besides English, so my suggestion is to learn another language to open up opportunities.

This major can allow you to pursue careers such as a lobbyist, consultant (depending on your specialty), legislative analyst, public policy and even Public Relations. It goes on and on, so don't fret about finding a position w/ this major. Good luck to you. =)
