You are horribly misinformed. Pandas breed in tthe wild. They eat bamboo and much of their habitat has been destroyed by the population in China where they live. The decrease in their population is not a matter of natural selection at all. No animal has an instinct to self destruct. Gas prices operate on supply and demand as well as the futures market. I gather that you never studied environmental science or economics. Although the gas prices are temporarily down, they will go sky high as soon as the winter heating season begins when the demand for oil increases..

I'm curious if pandas don't breed in the wild then how did they survive all these years? It's only very recently that human involvement has played a role with any animals breeding (artificial insemination, etc). I assure you 400 years ago people weren't helping pandas mate.
I think the real issue is lack of habitat and declining desirable "mates" within the panda community. People are responsible for the lack of habitat and that's why we should help them.
Plus, so much can be learned by all animals. It's a shame to let any certain species die out.

Pandas breed in the wild. They are in danger of extinction because of habitat destruction. You have a very odd, and very wrong, idea of what natural selection is and how it works. Species are not selected for extinction. Species go extinct when the natural conditions into which they fit change so fast that not enough members of the species are able to live to reproduce in enough numbers to sustain the species. And the amount of money and effort spent on pandas is a mere pittance compared to the oil problem's requirements.

Panda do breed in the wild. However humanity has reduced the size of their habitats and placed the species under a lot of stress. You ever tried having sex when you are stressed, aahh I didn't think so.
Humanity in trying to correct the injusticies to this species, have tried breeding them in captivity, however who needs an audience when you are stressed and behind bars.

We have pandas here in San Diego.I went to see them. Boring! If you were put in their cage you would not think they are cute. They would likely kill you. The line was long to see these boring animals. Thats the power of advertising. The Meercats were entertaining. No one was there. But I don't want to see them disappear. Or any other animal. The loss of the Dodo was sad.

But we are the ones selecting these animals for extinction with our rapacious land grabbing ways. It's our responsibility to stop it if we don't want to be the only species left in the world eventually.

You're joking right? We have ruined tons of their environment and they are pouched because of their rarity and incredible value. They do breed in the wild, but don't have cubs very often. Not to mention, it is our duty to try to protect them since we have reduced their numbers. Stop being stupid. Letting pandas go extinct won't lower gas prices. NUB!

Have to agree with the person above me. Try reading on the subject before spouting off at the mouth (or fingers as it were). A good website for you to read.

Because they're cute.
If cockroaches had breeding problems no one would mind.
