Working on a paper that defines the markets and customers for Yahoo! So, who are Yahoo's customers? What is their target audience? Who are they trying to reach and from whom do they earn their revenue?

Yahoo gets its revenue from advertisers. There are a few premium services for which Yahoo charges a fee directly from customers, but for the most part, their revenue comes from advertisers. Yahoo has a variety of free features such as e-mail, IM, 360, and Answers that draw in participants to their site. The more of us that Yahoo can draw in, the more Yahoo can charge its advertisers. So I would call all of us who come here and use the free services users as opposed to customers. The paying customers would be those who actually pay for a service or pay Yahoo to advertise on their site.

Their customer base is everyone. They offer free services for everyone and if you would like to upgrade, you pay a small fee. They earn their revenue from advertising for hundreds of thousands of companies on their site.
Also, go check out Yahoo! stocks. They are on the up-rise lately. You can also go to the streaming stock market online and get recent articles and reviews about Yahoo!

Think of Yahoo as a free newspaper. It's customers are the people who advertise. Yahoo offers advertising to its customers, they are the people who pay the bills.
Its target can be surmised by calculating the product offered (in this case the people who use Yahoo) and the people who can benefit from exposure to its product (usually businesses with services and/or products that can be transacted through the internet)
By increasing it's product line (more or different people who use Yahoo), it can then target more markets and customers.
