Ask want you want to know and don't comment or argue with what someone would say. On the following day or so ask the same question making it like a trick and see if there is consistency in the answer. If something seem to sound doubtful or different then chances are that person is lying.

How to Spot a Liar: 1) No eye contact. His eyes will look away.
2)The pupils of the eyes will narrow. Lying is
stressful.
3) Hands on the face, especially the mouth.
They are covering the lie
4) Talking fast. A liar wants to get it over with
5) Overstated friendliness/laughing. He
wants you to believe, & he wants you to
like him so you will believe him.
6) Mispronounces words or mumbling.
7) Gestures/expressions don't match the
verbal statement.

Ask the question and at the same time look at their eyes.
As the answer is given the eyes should look straight at you. If the eyeball moves to left or right, up or down, even for a tiny moment then they are lying.

Walk tall ..Walk straight and look me straight in the eye, that what my mammy told me when I was a little boy, just watch (it all in the eye’s) is the best way to know if someone is lying

check out the eye movement...if they look you straight in the eye chances are they telling the truth (it takes a very hard practised liar to be able to do this). Normally someone that's lying has roving eyes towards anywhere other than YOUR eyes....mostly towards the floor as a rule. Anyway why the question ?

It really varies person to person. Some people are better at hiding it than others. It can be a touch of the nose, or looking away, inconsistency in what they say or just going into too much detail. Most people have a tell, though and, the better you know them, the more likely you are to be able to spot it. It's a bit like poker...

Definately in their eyes, direct eye contact is very hard when you're lying. Also people tend to touch their nose or bottom half of their face, especially the chin, when lying.

They won't look you in the eye. But if they do it all the time, you will have a hard time. Sometimes they squirm. Change the subject real quick after the lie. Hangup or leave soon afterwards so they don't get caught. Or they forget they lied and contradict it later. They look sheepish, guilty.....
