15-20 years sounds right to me. It was sold as a quick job, remember? Flowers, candy from the people, we depose Saddam, get rid of his WMDs and leave with few or no American lives lost! Great Republican planning. Let's keep them in office!

Almost 60 years later, we still have troops in Korea. That should tell you that we'll have troops in Iraq as long as Iraq has rich fields of easily-accessible OIL.
If that weren't the case, WHY is the U.S.A. building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad. overlooking the modest headquarters of the the "new" Iraqi government?
PREDICTION: We'll invade Iran before the spring of 2007. As soon as the Bush handlers can concoct a plausible excuse that conservative ditto heads will "buy", we'll attack Iran for the very same reason we're in Iraq: OIL.
If we truly are interested in bringing democracy to the world, why don't we invade all the other dictatorships ruled by evil despots who rape, plunder, and murder their own people? Simple: those other dictatorships have no OIL!
The Bush administration has not been honest with the American people - or with Congress - about this so-called 'war on terror'. If we can't control crime on our own streets, how can we control terrorism around the world? We can't...and the nameless, faceless sub-humans who really control the government don't give a damn about terrorists. All these wealthy elitists, big whig corporate grand pubas, oil producers, and members of the giant U.S. military-industrial complex want is more money.

By the way, "political honesty" is an oxymoron, just as "military intelligence".
We'll be in Iraq for fifty years or more, or at least until the mid-east militants become strong and savvy enough to defeat us and remove our bullying presence. The Bush administration's 'war on terror" has only provoked more terror. Americans only represent 5% of the global population, but we squander more than 55% of the world's resources. Until we begin to recognize the importance of "sharing the wealth" with our own people and the rest of the world, we will be viewed as bullies and the new "evil empire'. Oliver Stone's statement today was right on target: Bush has set this country back ten - perhaps fifty - years. What Bush's masters have rendered will take decades to remedy, if we ever can. -RKO-

We are in Germany and Japan and it has been 61 years, we are in Korea and it has been51 years, and those are the wars we won!
Hopefully out of Iraq by 2009 and soon after that out of Afghanistan!
If the corporations want to rob the middle east, let them send there own damn army!
And get the CIA out of the drug business!
What job? Our troops are not liked by the people or the government of Iraq, they say we are doing more damage than good, and we should get the troops out as they are being used for target practice!
Rebuilding? You mean steal their oil and Iraqi's are worse off than when we took over! Imposed free Enterprise at it's best!
War on Terrorism! What a joke!

It really depends who's in office!.. it's proving to be a huge financial drain. The withdrawal will have to be painfully slow for the job to be done successfully. There's a very real chance we might be there permanently, ie leaving bases all round the country- which administration is gonna take that sucker punch?
After the devastation of the country's infrastructure and economy, it won't be able to behave like a good little boy for years and years to come. No - I think we're here to stay.

I can only speculate a guess here, a lot of the congress and the generals that are dealing with iraq would like to see a pull begin soon, that is what I heard, now if that is becasue of the elections who knows for sure. I would think we are going to be there for a least another two years unless something drastic happens soon.

Somehow, I don't see this thing ever coming to an end. Even if we were to pull our troops out tomorrow, there would still be way too many terrorists who are pissed off at us. The war in Iraq has resulted in a whole new generation of terrorists being bred, so I strongly suspect that our great-great-great grandchildren will be feeling the repercussions (that is, if the human race is still around).

20 years. Sad but true. They continually compare the rebuilding of Japan and gemany after WWII. In both of which America has to this day, permenent military bases.

Probably forever, or till Jesus returns.
Fact is, Arabs have been fighting each other and everybody else since before Jesus walked the earth. What makes us and our country of barely more than 200 yrs think we can change a culture that's been killing for thousands of years.
