Ok. Periods suck. Big time. I hate them. Is there anyway I can like, put them off for a while. I am in college and don't plan on having kids any time soon. I just want to get rid of them for a while without having any negative affects. Hsa anyone here ever tried something close. Please tell me.

Talk to your gyno, but most of the time you can just skip your last week of pills (if youre on the pill) and start the next pack. That makes you skip oyur period. I get my period every other month (because I skip every other month). It doesn't work for everyone though. There are shots (depo) that are a little more long term and they usually stop your period. There are side effects to a lot of those though. Just talk to your doctor.

Try getting an IUD, a t-shaped device that is placed in your uterus, which can lessen and even stop your period all together. There are two popular types on the market today. Mirena, which I have and love, which lasts for 5 years and has stopped my period all together. There is also a copper one, I forget the name now, but it lasts for up to 10 years and has occasionally been linked to heavier bleeding and cramping.

Personally, I love my IUD because I don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday or getting a shot every 6 months. I don't have to worry about my "time of the month" and if I decide that sometime in the next 5 years I want to have another child I can have it taken out.

Of course, as a disclaimer, I must say IUDs do not protect against AIDS/HIV or STDs, so always use a condom if you and your partner(s) haven't been tested.

Do some research and go with what you feel is best.

Lo-estra (SP?) ask a dr. about it. It's a birth control pill that can make periods shorter and further between and has the same side effects of a regular birth control pill. I've also heard that people can go ahead and take regular birth control pills and continue to take the "active" pills while you're supposed to take the fake ones during the week of your period and that makes peroids stop. Though this may be unhealthy as you do need to shed your uterine lining.

I do not know how to stop them, I am only commenting because I have seen all the Depo-Provera responses, I was on that and it made it way worse. I had to stop using it because it made my period excessive to a point that I had to go to the ER. It can work either way, for some it stops it almost completely but for others it can make it last longer and be much stronger.

there is a new contraceptive that allows you to only have 4 periods a year... you may want to talk to your gyno about it... I belive it is an Ortho Novum product..
I Had a Hystorectomy 9 years ago but I have heard about this product a few times in the medical journals I get in the mail.

Don't know why this is in this section, but to answer your question, the Depo Provera shot stopped my cycle completely. There is also this new birth control that makes it so you have only 3 in a year. I don't think there are any serious side effects to these. But I suggest you talk to your gynecologist.

I hear you there I hate periods too So I decided to quit using them Maybe I will use another form of punctuation like a exclamation point or question mark? It's time to make a stand & quit using them! Nobody needs to suffer from periods!

The Seasonale birth control pill is supposed to make it happen only four times a year, if it's safe for you to take the Pill. (It's not for many women, including smokers and women with a family history of heart disease.)

I'm getting a partial hysterectomy in January, and I am, like, one-quarter scared and three-quarters *stoked*!!!

Oh, and about Depo--I took it for fibroids, and you *will* have menopause symptoms with it, all the not-fun stuff like weight gain, dryer skin, higher cholesterol, etc.

You can take the pill in a certain way to miss your periods, or you can get a contraceptive injection or rod inserted which will also mean you miss them. The rod lasts for 2 years.
I don't know if you can get it over there, they seem a bit uptight about all thing sexual to me!!!!!
