An apple comes in many different styles and colors. In the end they are all the same fruit. Each has a different adjective attached to denote each specific apple type. Sadly Golden Delicious aren't gold and Granny Smith? Who's she?

Oranges are consistently orange but apples vary in color!
Besides we would have to call Johnny Appleseed something like
Johnny Pinkseed and that would be no fun!

It is not that the fruit is named after the color, it is that the color is named after the fruit. Much like the color pumpkin is named after the fruit.
Thus, the color red should be called Apple, according to your thinking.

they just got more creative when naming that fruit

if greens are called greens and green beans are called green beans, why isn't corn called yellows and navy beans called white beans
