Yes they are allowed to visit for a period of three months but they are not allowed to work. This will be the situation for the next six or seven years after which they will have all the rights of other EU citizens. This is designed to protect all economies as a sudden influx here would not only damage the UK but would have a devastating effect on Romania if their most able suddenly left the country.

To visit, yes, but not necessarily to stay and certainly not to claim benefit as claimed by a bigoted ignoramus called Dee who also answered this question and should check the facts before spreading inaccuracies.

Gordon S, I call Dee an ignoramus because she got her facts wrong. There is a moratorium on the right of Romanians (and Bulgarians) to work in the UK for some years, so it isn't comparable with the situation of the Poles, who were allowed to come and work in the UK as soon as their country joined the EU. I also called her a bigot because she criticises foreign workers merely because they are foreign and portrays them all as scroungers when the huge majority of them emigrate to work honestly (like the British in Dubai, for example).

I don't belong to the Labour Party team you mentioned or any organisation of any political party.

Judging by the nearly half a million Poles that are immigrating I would say yes.

Dramafreak, were you part of the Labour Party team that forecast 27,000 Polish immigrants rather than the actual 400,000? Don't be naive mate. People should take care not to confuse bigotry with simple of observation of reality. Also, bigotry is intolerance of opinions other than one's own, which makes many anti-bigots even worse bigots than the people they so vehemently criticise and insult.

EDIT: Dramafreak - That's better mate. You should have included that in your first answer.

They may not be completely free to work and claim benefits but in practice in never quite works out that way does it. In any case, it doesn't really bother me, if anything I just don't like debates being hijacked by zealots who think that reasonable discussion involves anything remotely non-PC being answered with insults of bigotry, racism, sexism... or whatever other -ism is in vogue.

yes. Romanians will be free to visit the UK, from some of the other answers I am quite frankly ashamed, the immigrants that come here are on the whole extremely hardworking and do the jobs that no one wants to do, they should be made welcome not made to feel like some invading horde. We are incredibly lucky to live in one of the richest countries in the world and we should all remember that.

AN ANSWER TO ALL STUCK UP RACIST OUT THERE : FIRST OF ALL WE, PEOPLE FROM EASTERN EUROPE, DO NOT COME TO ENGLAND TO CLAIM BENEFITS - WE HAVE A CONFIDENCE THAT WE ARE SMART ENOUGH TO GET A PROPER JOB !!! AND SECOND, INSTEAD OF BEING IGNORANT, YOU MIGHT AS WELL CHECK HOW MANY PEOPLE BUY PROPERTIES IN OUR COUNTRIES AND ARE HAPPY TO STAY THERE FOR GOOD. SO WHY SHOULD NOT WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO COME TO ENGLAND IF WE ARE HAPPY HERE??!!!
INSTEAD YOU SHOULD CONCENTRATE ON THE PROBLEM WITH ALL THE TERRORISTS COMING HERE AND EVEN !!!!!!!! CLAIM BRITISH PASSPORTS AND BENEFITS AND WHATEVER THEN CAN GET FOR FREE FROM THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT!!!!!
P.S. JUST FOR THE RECORD: WE DO PAY OUR INCOME AND COUNCIL TAXES, BILLS AND RENT!!!

yes they will be free to visit, but unlike most of the other naswers they will not be entitled to work, unless in a category we are actively seeking. They will not be able to claim benefits either.

Well all i can say is i hope they do'nt come to Dewsbury, it's becoming somewhat over populated with foreigners. So much so it's getting harder to hear a Yorkshire accent.
