My son is 7 years old and he is autistic. I haven't heard of many autistic adults. I could not bear to lose my child at a young age, but I have not been able to find anywhere in research about lifespans of autistic people. Please, someone tell me if you know anything on this.

I have a high functioning Autistic Daughter -- and she is in college right now. Her life span, and the life spans of Autistics in General are pretty much the same as the general population, barring any other genetic conditions that they may have.

So rest assured, they live long, healthy lives, although they will always need to be aware of their need to ask for assistance when required or to have some help in their lives.

Honey, dont worry there are many, many adult autisctics, your child is not going anywhere until the good lord says so, stop worring and love your son each and every day you have him, I myself lost my 19 year old son four years ago to a stupid nut who shot him not even knowing my son's name but I know that it was his time according to the lord that's how I get throug it.

Autism doens't affect your lifespan. It's a disorder affecting the brain's ability to interact in what we consider a "normal" way. It doesn't affect one's health in anyway.
