I have a 3 week old baby that has gas and reflux I believe. Most problems are when I lay her on her back. She doesn't sleep all that much...especially at night. We have just recently started propping her up. This helps. We also give her gas drops. Well I bought "Enfamil Gentlease" and wanted to see if it helps. I only tried it once and she fussed like she didn't like the taste. Should I give up or mix it with Enfamil Lipil (what I am already using) or keep trying with it? Any advice???

My first had the same problem ( i am a mother of four the youngest is only two months) and at the time all they had was good start which is alot like gentlease so i did try that and after a few weeks i noticed a difference in not only the spitting up but the gas and fussiness too. Since they have came out with gentlease and i have used that with my following children and sware by it. Don't give up it may take a couple weeks to notice a difference. And you might want to try laying her on her side instead of her back.

I have 3 kids. Every kid started out at the hospital with a high iron formula. The Iron is the best thing for babies, but it's known that it causes gas problems in babies.
With my first one, I asked my doc if I could switch formulas. He told me that I could because Iron is hard for a lot of babies to take. I found that all of my kids did much better with a Soy based formula. I switched the other 2 as soon as I came home from the hospital.
Anyway, it takes about a week for the high Iron to get out of their system. She's still reacting to the fact that she knows it will make her miserable. Give it some time, she'll come around and probably be like a totally different baby.

While I'm not saying that anyone should do this or that I'm condoning it in any way, my doc told me that he and his wife switched to whatever formula they had a coupon for with each baby. Because, for the most part, all formulas have the same basic ingredients.

Good luck!

Don't bother with Gentlease...it costs more, and isn't necessary for acid reflux. Plus it can constipate even more.

Great...I have had the same problem, and I will tell you how I fixed it:

1. Do NOT EVER let her lay flat on her back for AT LEAST 1/2 hour after she eats. Hold her, or put her in a bouncer seat up at an angle. Put her bed up at an angle too, but not so much that she rolls down while you are asleep.

2. Don't worry about giving her gas drops. All the meds in the world won't help a baby. Gas and Acid reflux are different things. Don't even bother with prescription acid meds.

3. Gentlease caused even more problems with my baby.

4. I switched to Enfamil Advance and my daughters problems improved.

5. Get used to doing all this. I did this with my daughter for 6 months as a preventative measure, but it kept her from suffering.

Enfamil isnt good b/c it has way to much IRON in it.Its hard for us as adult to take iron a 3wk old really cant take it.I have a 2month old and she was on enfamil Lipil and it made her have gas alot and she'd never burp and she was VERY constipated.I had to take her to the doctor b/c ur doctor is supposed to recommend the change n formula. She's now on neosure(similac) its very good she's had no problems. She was a preemie so I had to be very careful. But make her an emergency appointment they will c her the same day and just explain to ur doctor and let them know that u want to change it and what do they reccomend. They might try to shoot u the bullsh*t that she's fine but u know ur baby.Thats how they did me @ first until I let em know look this is my child and I do know a little of what is best for her in a sense also.Becareful.And Good Luck

My doc switched us to Nestle Good Start and it worked better for gas than the Enfamil formulas. Keep trying unti lyou find the one that works. Maybe you can get some various samples from your pediatrician to save $$ while testing brands?

Get Enfamil AR Lipil for babies that spit up. It thickens in their stomache, reduces gas and spitting up. This formula is much more gentle and eastier to digest than regular Enfamil.

It helps so much. I switched my son to Enfamil Gentlease at about one month. It was absolutely great! I never thought I'd see such a change. I had a pleasant baby for once.

I defiantly recommend it!

First acid reflux and gas is very dangerous at that young age, my son ended up in the hospital 15 times the first 4 mo nths of his life from the reflux and milk allergies. Find a GI doctor, don't stick with the ped for reflux, they are not equiped to handle that.

Second, if you have to let your baby sleep in the car seat, swing, or use a pillow under the mattress to prop her up, that is fine, my little guy slept in the car seat for 5 months, finally after being placed on prevacid 15mg a day he is now able to sleep flat...

Third, make sure they check her for milk and soy allergies, that on top of reflux makes it all worse.

Last, Ellecare and neocate are great for reflux babies, that is what ours has been on since january and I have a completly different baby now, he is not spitting up, not gassy, not fussy, no asthma prob, nothing....
