It usually refers to the rear-view mirrors on the driver and/or passenger side. It heats when there's ice, frost, water, etc. to clear it off. It's actually quite useful (I have it on my car).

Heated Mirrors are simply that.. there is a small heating element glued to the backside of the mirror itself much like your rear window defroster,, very handy for maintaining clear view while driving in cold or wet weather so your mirrors don't fog or ice over.
Sparky.

Could be the area inside the side window is defrosted/heated to allow fogless view of the sideview mirror to be visible from the driver's vantage point. My car has that and it saves straining on to see behind or from the side traffic on days where my car tends to fog inside....

It is just that! They are wired to an electrical circuit and have tiny wires that heat up to melt ice and snow, or what ever off them in the winter time. This can be an advantage when in the cold weather. Have Fun!!

your side mirrors are heated just like the back window, my husband has them and they don't get used often but when it's really frosty out there it comes in handy. Depending where you live you may never use them.

your heater is vented out to your side mirrors to clear fog and frost to help keep them clear. some are electricly heated for the same reason.
