If your using a modem to make the dial up connection then check the following:-

1. Does it dial another service or test it by dialing your home/mobile number.

2. Make sure your dialed number is correct and your credentials are correct also.

3. Just to test you can dial the number from a ordinary phone and get to hear the tone (dont hold it to close to your ear !!)

If you have a problem with dialing from the Laptop then make sure you suffix does not contain any other number like dialing a 9 or 0 before the number of the ISP. Finally make sure that you are using the correct driver for the modem and set the connection rate to 115K.

Wish you luck.

I had a similar problem, which was solved by ringing the company that manages your phone line - it turns out that some ISP's require identification of your phone number and will bar you if they don't get it - the phone company gave me a prefix to dial so that the ISP get the number...

Just a thought if you have tried the other suggestions

Assuming you have the correct password

Launch Internet Explorer
From the menu select Tools > Internet Options > select the connections tab and select setup.

Sounds like your router is either defective or disconnected; you could have a loose wire. Unplug everything and then plug it back in. Jiggle the router jack to make sure it's firmly in place...golly that sounds rude, but you know what I mean!
Your router could well be defective, you can exchange it.
