Come on people. If you're going to ask for help at least give make, model and year of your vehicle.

cantsugar is correct for many vehicles.
However many toyotas have their adjustment right at the hand brake. Push back the rubber around the hand brake and there's a screw that can be turned to adjust the hand brake.

Also, it's best to adjust the brake shoes before adjusting the wires on the hand brake to ensure that the shoes are indeed close enough to the drums to make contact so when the hand brake is pulled they do push the shoes against the drums.

you will find a cable under the vehicle with an adjuster on it. With the brake released, adjust the cable to where it is not hanging down and has a little slack in it, then get in the car and press the pedal or pull the handle that applies the brake and it should be able to hold the car in place on a slight incline, the emergency brake is to keep the car from beginning to roll not to stop it. so when you adjust it make sure it does the job it is designed to do……………
