The answers show that many of you do not know what you are talking about. A man is much less likely to get a disease from a prostitute because she is much more likely to use a condom. A sensible pro would realise that getting a STI is going to put her out of business albeit for a short while (while she gets treated) and no business means no money. Most prostitutes are much more careful about their clients and what they do with them than some girl picked up, drunk, in a bar.
However, that doesnt answer the question. If your husband visits a prostitute then you have to assume that there is something (not necessarily sexual) that he is not getting from you. He should have discussed his wants/needs but didnt. If he has an affair, the same applies. He may not necessarily have his emotions involved - he may just enjoy the thrill of the chase. However, if he is that shallow he will probably keep doing it. Whichever happens, affair or pro, the marriage is doomed. And by the way men dont just visit prostitutes as a one off - some do of course but many see a WG they like for years, even decades!

Definitely the prostitute, although both would herald the end! An affair I could probably deal with in the sense I could try and work out what had happened between us emotionally since he would obviously have feelings for the harlet, but with the prostitute it's just sex with huge risks (infection being the biggest, me leaving him the 2nd) and if he's willing to risk it then he has no respect whatsoever for me or himself as well as a load of other reasons.
It's funny - I did divorce no1 hubby and the icing on the cake was his eventual admission to prostiutes!! I did think then an affair would be easier to handle - but I would still have left him either way. I could maybe forgive at a push, but I would never forget.

An affair is much worse because it involves a lot of emotion and emotional attachment, love, a sharing of confidences and often much planning, etc; Whereas a man going with a prostitute is purely just for the sex and its doubtful any meaningful relationship can ever be built from that.
Both situations, although somewhat separate, are no less a betrayal on their partner and to their marriage vows and are just a worse or as bad as the other.
A betrayal is a betrayal. Ditto.

Both are equally bad for a relationship... But i can see why an affair would feel worse because it MAY mean he's found someone else he'd rather be with. But at the end of the day, he shouldn't have entered into a relationship without being able to commit. On the positive, if anyone finds out their partner has done the dirty, at least they now know about it and can move on from the cheat.

An affair would be worse because it means his heart is someone elses. But him going with a prostitute would be bad too because I would think it would mean he thought I was bad in bed & so had to look for it elsewhere! I'd also be peeved at the waste of money lol
Either way it would be over though.

I would probably say both is as bad as each other. you could say that there is no love where a prostitute is concerned but lots of STI's, however the affair means he actually fancies/loves/lusts after another woman rather than you. Postitutes are normally only a once off so there isn't any love lost there either. Hard question.

Neither. Both are equally WRONG. Visiting a prostitute IS having an affair. If this happened to me, I would surely be on fire with a rage so white hot it would burn a hole in my cast iron skillet.
My "husband" would have no more reason or inclination EVER to do it again. Period.

For me the prostitute would be an insult but the affair would hurt most as that is more than just about sex

Visiting a prostitute because it means he went looking for it, and even felt like he had to pay for it. And is a bigger chance maybe of infection and disease. At least with an affair, he could say he was seduced.

to be perfectly honest i would say it depends which way you look at it:
on one hand you could say it was worse to catch him with a prostitute simply because you know he wanted sex as that is the purpose of them, so it would mean he felt he was not getting what he anted from you and had to resort to paying for it!
on the other hand you could say that him having an affair is worse because he is not only being stimulated sexually, but he is also being stimulated mentally. if he is having an affair he has clicked with someone, and thinks it is worth the risk of losing you!
either way he has cheated, and you should think carefully what your nex move is!
