A stock broker's job is to help people invest in the stock market. They will invest your money in different companies and funds in the stock market. Most of them will charge you fees for this, either up front or by taking a commission on the money they earn for you. There are also "online stock brokerage sites" now. These are sites where you can go online and manage your own money for a bit cheaper - without the help of an actual stock broker. There are still fees involved though and you have to be comfortable researching your own funds on the internet and reading up on expense fees.
