Yeah, actually I'm just finishing up my steroid drops this weekend. It's been about a month since I've been able to wear contacts, and I've been through 2 kinds of antibiotic drops, and now the steroids. I had an allergic reaction to either my contacts or my solution, and wound up with loads of corneal ulcers (abrasions) and an infection. REALLY makes me wish I could afford lasik. But next week my eye doc is setting me up with a different kind of contacts and some crazy alcohol based solution.
I've had one before, but not nearly as severe as what happened this time. It only took about a week for it to heal, and the sun sensitivity went away really quickly with the drops before.

I had the same thing. It hurt like hell and I was sensitive to light. It took a good 6 weeks to feel relief and heal my eye. My eye doctor said it was because I never took my contact out. Which is true. I still wear contacts but I switch between glasses and contacts to give my eyes a rest whenever possible.

I had that from a certain brand of contacts. They sucked so hard onto my eyeball that I had a red ring on the whites of my eyes for a couple of days. The doctor switched me to a different brand of contacts, switched the kind of cleaner I was using and I was good to go. I did find it better to wear glasses if I was going to work on the computer all day though. I finally gave up and got vision correction surgery. I have 20/20 vision now!

I had it happen in both eyes when I was lots younger -- I put my contacts in after they had been in enzyme cleaning solution. Dumb, dumb, dumb. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced (and I've had a C-section!). I went to an emergency clinic and they gave me drops to take home; someone had to drive me because I couldn't tolerate light.
Fortunately, it was over in about 24 hours, but I wouldn't want it to happen ever again. My eyes weren't damaged, but I quit wearing contacts after that just because I had a real aversion to putting anything in my eyes.

I don't have personal experience, but you might want to have a look at the pretty decent wikipedia article on this subjet - it might be a good launchpafd for your enquiries.
