which Hockey Hall a Famer was not picked first overall by the Montreal Canadiens, in the 1980 NHL entry draft. the Canadiens past on him to pick Doug Wickenheiser 1st overall in the 1980 entry draft. Wickenheiser did not have the best of career and allot of people mostly the fans of the Canadiens where not to pleased with the Canadiens selection.

Paul Coffey fits the criteria as does fellow defensemen and former red wing Larry Murphy.
But I imagine you were leaning toward Class of 2000 Hall of Fame inductee- Denis Savard.
I imagine that Hab fans were not pleased to see him go to Chicago, after playing for the Montrael Juniors in the "Q"...

There were three Hall of Famers picked after Wickenheiser in that first round, Larry Murphy, Denis Savard, and Paul Coffey.
That same draft also produced a fourth-rounder who's in the HOF, Jari Kurri.

Because of your strong connection to the Habs, i'm going to assume you are talking about Savard. Coffey and murphy were d-men, wickenheiser was a forward and so is savard. With that being said, i think as good as the two d-men were, you are referring to denis savard. There is a brethern there isn't there!

Remember it well...Denis Savard was passed on for his lack of size . Wickenheiser was bigger and produced in a tougher WHL...Wickkenheiser by the way died of cancer a few years back too bad,,great player ,in junior,but no Savard as apro
