I was searching for an old cd on the internet and found it on a bunch of sites I never heard of. It's also on Amazon.com and I know that they're a reputable company. I've used store credit cards on the internet, like Gap and Kohls, but I've never used my Mastercard for a purchase on the internet. I guess I'm nervous because a store card can only be used at that store's site but a Mastercard can be used anywhere. Should I be worried?

Amazon is probably one of the most secure stores for providing your credit card number. Amazon is probably the biggest, most visible online store on the Internet. So believe me, if anyone has a refined security system, it's Amazon. I have been using it for years and I have never had any problems with them.

They even go the extra mile and do other smart things, such as this: on many pages, it will only show you the last 5 digits on your credit card number, just in case someone else is looking over your shoulder or something.

I'll provide a link to Amazon's information page on paying by credit card. They include a section "Is it safe to enter my card number online?"

No, Amazon is great! I've ordered jewelry, toys, books, clothes, and shoes from Amazon for over 2 years now and I've never had any issues. Your credit cards is more than likely covered for fraudulent activity by your creditor anyway under fraud protection.

no. if they are checking your credit report then you should be able to fill out a form and get the response of what credit cards you do have as well as bank accounts. maybe they want the credit card number to charge you.

Amazon is very secure but even if something does go wrong your credit card company would compensate you anyway.

Not about Amazon. They're very secure. I use them as a customer of theirs, and I work with them as a technology supplier.
